Mark Ruffalo thinks Hulk could appear in Captain America: Civil War

With each passing casting announcement, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR ends up sounding more and more like AVENGERS: CIVIL WAR. Not that I am complaining, but with appearances from Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Iron Man, Falcon, Ant-Man, Vision, War Machine, and more, the movie has a roster of heroes very similar to AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Despite the absence of Thor and Hulk, the core team of Avengers are all accounted for with some recent comments making it seem like Hulk may show up, too.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Mark Ruffalo teased that Robert Downey Jr told him to get down to the set of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR based on the rumors floating around the internet. Ruffalo also said this.

“I don’t know! I heard a rumor about that the other day,” Ruffalo said. “I haven’t seen a script, nobody’s told me, and I don’t have dates. But I can only hope so!”

Many of our exclusive scoops on the movie have been confirmed but the Hulk rumor seems like it may actually come true. In fact, William Hurt is reprising his role as General Thunderbolt Ross, a key character from THE INCREDIBLE HULK, so it wouldn't be too far-fetched to imagine Bruce Banner coming back in som capacity.

Whether it happens or not, Mark Ruffalo remains one of the better actors to take part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, while he claims he loves being an indie actor, Ruffalo appreciates what Marvel has done for him.

“I like the challenge of it,” he said. “I like the cultural significance of it, as an art project. It’s crossing into all kinds of cultures, and belief systems, and ideologies. It’s hitting a lot of boxes, and really specialized boxes, too. And ultimately, the messaging of it is pretty good! It has a decency about it. I always feel like this is our modern mythology, in a way. We’ve been doing this since the time we could draw on cave walls. This is our version of it now, but we’re still working out the same stuff—violence, brotherhood, and more.”

Whether this rumor ends up being true or not, Ruffalo has to return as the Hulk at some point and I hope it is in a standalone movie all his own. Until then, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
