Robert De Niro says he will reteam with Martin Scorsese for another gangster movie soon

Nov. 20, 2013by:

Hearing the names Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese in the same breath brings up a whole slew of cinema memories. Whether it be CAPE FEAR, RAGING BULL, or TAXI DRIVER, fans have their favorite collaborations. But, it is the gangster movies they made together, GOODFELLAS and CASINO, that most fans hold an eternal place for. We have hoped beyond hope that they would reunite for another film someday. Scorsese has long been developing a movie called THE IRISHMAN that would feature De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci and tell the story of Frank Sheeran and his involvement with the Teamsters and the death of Jimmy Hoffa.

At a recent press conference for THE FAMILY, which was produced by Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro was asked about the chance to reunite with his frequent director. The legendary actor said the following:

I have another gangster film Im gonna do with Scorsese and its a very interesting one. he said. Were preparing it. We have a script and Marty has another film hes doing before so it wont be for a while. He even admitted they were contemplating taking their working relationship from the screen to the page. Once Scorsese and I were thinking about doing a book together, and we might still I dont know, but its as far as it went.

Based on De Niro's comments, I would assume that next project Scorsese will be working on for a while is the Japan set SILENCE with THE IRISHMAN coming right after, assuming that is the same gangster film. Either way, seeing these two back on the same track is going to be exciting. Whether or not Pesci or Pacino are still involved remains to be seen. I just want to know if Leonardo DiCaprio, Scorsese's modern day De Niro, is going to be involved in this one. That would be amazing.

Ya adding Leo would just make this insane. However, I want to note, I think Casino is really over-rated. Incredibly well made, acted, all that, but I knew what was going to happen beat for beat. Just overrated I guess I'm saying

Awesome times infinity. Although, I can't help but daydream a Martin Scorsese film starring DeNiro, DiCaprio, Joe Pesci and the late, great James Gandolfini. Man, what could have been. :(

I doubt if scorsese would a film with these veteran actors since they aren't that bankable stars now.but Pacino, deniro, scorsese would be one hell of a combo to look forward to

Here's hoping this is the reunion we've been hearing about with DeNiro, Pesci, and Liotta (and possibly Pacino) possibly being ex-gangsters living in retirement.

I hope that it is The Irishman, but honestly I am excited no matter what. About fucking time they make another gangster movie together.

I'm inclined to agree actually. I mean, I like Leo, and he and De Niro have worked together before well, but DiCaprio lacks that particular presence that Marty's old crew has in spades.

Was it changed??

I could've sworn that it first said, "De Niro is no DiCaprio"

Dicaprio and Di Niro together in a Scorsese film would be fantastic. Get a proper round 2 to the fight in This Boys Life.
