Marvel puts Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch on Doctor Strange wish-list

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It looks like Marvel is finally putting together a cast list for its upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE movie. We now know that Scott Derrickson will direct the comic adaptation and rumors are rampant about who will land the magical role. It was just two days ago we talked about the Jared Leto rumor; so those of you personally affected by that can now get some rest it seems. Deadline is now reporting that Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch have made the list.

Suggesting these two stars for the role is really not that surprising; throw out big names and get people’s attention, why not? Both of these stars have a lot of projects already on the go, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them pass on this Unfortunately; Hardy is great is anything and just picturing him in the role has me nodding in approval.

Hardy's upcoming projects include Michaël R. Roskam’s crime-thriller THE DROP, Daniel Espinosa’s CHILD 44, and George Miller’s MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Not to mention he’s also rumored to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s THE REVENANT. Cumberbatch, meanwhile, next appears in the Alan Turing biopic THE IMITATION GAME, and voices roles in THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR and THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES.

To say these two are busy would be an understatement; but I guess "stranger" things have happened. Eh? Eh? Sorry…it's Friday.

There is no specific release date for the DOCTOR STRANGE movie, but Marvel has two placeholder dates set for unnamed features on July 8, 2016 and on May 5, 2017; the Doctor might see you then.
