Massive Star Wars: Episode VIII rumor gives us Rey's heritage

06.17.2016

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding this new STAR WARS trilogy is where the hell Rey comes from! The easy assumption is that Luke Skywalker is her father, but as most fans would agree, that's almost TOO easy. Well, the following rumor might give us our answer, so it's worth noting that there are POTENTIAL MAJOR SPOILERS in the following article. Granted, this does not come from one of our confirmed sources but it's fun to discuss, right?

For those of you still with me, this comes courtesy of Comic Book Movie from a source dubbed "Stormtrooper Larry." Evidently this source has delivered some on-set photos in the past, and while that doesn't exactly mean this is legit, there may be some truth in there somewhere. So let's get to it!

As the scene begins, Luke talks a bit about the arrogance of the Jedi Council, and that they were concealing a secret. Rey takes Luke's hand and together they see a vision of the past - two children playing near a mysterious tree. As one child, a boy, gets closer to the tree, he notices that his strength increases. One day a fight breaks out between the boy and the other child, a girl, and he seemingly kills her. Touching the tree, he's "transformed", and proceeds to kill their parents and flee the planet. The girl is alive, however, and also transformed by the tree. She creates the first Jedi Order.

Eventually, the girl reveals that she will return in either the form of a girl or a boy and that person will be "The One." Luke explains that Anakin was thought to be The One, but the situation went tits up (probably not the EXACT bit of dialogue). We also see Rey's parents in this vision and that Rey was identified as being strong in the force at a young age. She was to undergo training, but never reached her destination. Luke gives Rey a choice to make and until sundown to make it. It's at this point that Kylo and his Knights or Ren seem to show up...

From what I understand, a copy of a STAR WARS script is harder to get a hold of than Hamilton tickets, so I'm going to take the above with all of the grains of salt. With that said, there are a few things in the rumor that seem to ring true, like a mysterious-looking tree and Kylo attacking at sunset. It's possible some fan has just taken a look at the set photos and come up with their own bullshit, so we'll just have to wait until next December to find out!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII will open in theaters on December 15, 2016.

Release Date December 15, 2016?

I know they were saying that Rogue 1 was in trouble, but to move this movie up to take its place for Xmas 2016 seems a bit rushed, doesn't it?

Don't believe it

Not only does this sound like complete fan-fiction, it makes all the other Rey's parents theories sound like amazing revelations. If it's true Rey came from a tree, I will give up on this franchise.

I doubt it's true. It sounds too complicated, and not very satisfying. I also doubt Luke is her dad, since that would be too obvious. My theory is that Rey simply has no parents (or at most, only one parent who is not Luke). She was conceived by the force (like Anakin), and is the actual child of prophecy who will bring balance to the force. Anakin didn't do anything to bring balance. Daisy Ridley herself said that she comes from nowhere, and finds a way to fit in. That would explain her

This is just a rehash of that "No, you are MY father" rumor that came around a couple months ago.

It's stupid, and Star Wars doesn't need to be that complicated. He's her dad, end of story.

If this is true, it fits nicely to the recent Marvel Star Wars comics where Luke post battle of Yavin went on a quest to find the sapling of a nearly extinct Jedi tree, aided by Poe Dameron's parents.

Someone needs to give Daisy some serious martial arts training so she doesn't look so silly holding that lightsaber.

Oilivia Munn could give her some pointers. Her physical performance was incredible in the latest X-Men, lackluster film or not.

She can get some training for future movies, but her not being so good with the saber made perfect sense in Force Awakens. She was fighting and running for dear life

Except that she won the lightsaber battle. Never having even seen one, she should have cut her own hand off.

First, Anakin was supposed to be the One. Then, Luke was supposed to be the One but then, Anakin killed the emperor so I guess he was the One.

Still, you can't find a new One every time you start a new trilogy. I understand George Lucas for going that path because he started the original trilogy as an homage to the genre film he liked as a kid, but that was then and this is now. There has been an explosion of genre films since the OT was released and this trope is no longer effective.

Anakin was the one. He brought balance to the force by eliminating the Jedi and Sith.

I thought Anakin brought balance to the force by fathering Luke and Leia; the twins would be the balance.

Yeah I understood it as anakin was phrophesized as the one and had great potential, but his fulfillment of being the one came from creating Luke (and Leia). And that's why I think Rey has to be related.

However, in the Star Wars comic shattered empire (I think that's what it's called. Haven't read it but heard ab it.). I believe the conclusion involves Luke getting poe's mom to steal a force sensitive tree. There were 2, and Luke took one with him and left one with poe's mom. I didn't

I believe the conclusion involves Luke getting poe's mom to steal a force sensitive tree. There were 2, and Luke took one with him and left one with poe's mom. I didn't read it, but I read a review that really emphasized these force trees. So maybe there's some truth to it, though it doesn't make sense that it'd make her the one. I guess no one has said she is. Perhaps Luke steers her in the right direction

ALSO, I think one of the big differences in this franchise is that Kylo will do a reverse Anakin and become a full on badass good guy in Star Wars 9, and in the way I spoke of at the top, anakin can still be described as the chosen one or the one who brought balance. I wouldn't be surprised if Rey went bad but I'm not ready to bet $ on it

I prefer the rumor where Rey asks Luke if she's her father and Luke says no "you are my father".... (Reincarnated)

That rumor in my headline was a real one. I think its been thoroughly dismissed, but this tree of life / Matrix "the one" rumor sounds about equally absurd. Anakin was the child of the prophecy cause ultimately he killed the Emperor and brought balance. I don't need history to be retroactively revised due to lack of creative imagination.
