Matthew McConaughey narrates and cries in the teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The first teaser for director Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR has taken off, featuring mostly stock footage of flight and space travel with Matthew McConaughey. supplying voice over and a few scattered shots, mostly of corn fields. The only star of the film we see is McConaughey who is seen tearful, while driving in said cornfields. It's a very cryptic tease that gives off a "man-on-discovery" vibe, which is fitting, obviously, since that's what it's really about.

Blast off:

Here's the synopsis:

A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

I saw this last night in the theater while catching THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG and it didn't seem to do much to rile anyone up. Mostly, folks just seemed confused. I was intrigued, certainly, but this is definitely no INCEPTION-level teaser that leaves you buzzing with excitement. And, that's fine, really, as not every one of Nolan's films has to do that, but considering that his last two films (INCEPTION and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) left everyone with movie boners with their initial teases, this one is a bit anti-climactic. No matter, though. We'll all be there.

INTERSTELLAR, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn, David Oyelowo, Bill Irwin, and Matt Damon is set to travel to theaters on November 7, 2014.
