Passion of the Rourke

03.11.2009

If Mickey Rourke doesn't slow down, he'll need to take another long break from Hollywood just to rest.

Maintaining post-WRESTLER inertia, Rourke has joined yet another project, an indie drama called PASSION PLAYS. Absolutely no other details on the movie were offered, other than it will be written and directed by Mitch Glazer (writer of SCROOGED and THE RECRUIT), and is seeking a viable female lead.

Meanwhile, Rourke has finally been confirmed to play the Russian villain in IRON MAN 2, after endless rumor, speculation and behind-the-scenes dealings. According to Variety, he'll be playing Whiplash, "a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie."

In addition to these projects, Rourke is also involved with Walter Hill's hitman movie ST. VINCENT, the Bolly/Hollywood crime thriller BROKEN HORSES, the drama 11 MINUTES and, most importantly, THE EXPENDABLES. I suppose the upside of Mickey's current visage is that you won't be able to tell if he's tired...

Extra Tidbit: That pic of Rourke is from STORMBREAKER, which also features Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Damian Lewis and Alicia Silverstone. Kinda makes you wanna see it now, huh?

True! I saw that pic of Rourke and immediately wondered what the hell is that pic from? I gotta see it! And I will, thanks for the info.

Also, Rourke on Iron Man 2??? Best thing that couldve happened to that movie!

Finally

Looks like finally a done deal-not sure why they'd go with "whiplash"? Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man would have been a better match. I see "Variety" says "elements" of Crimson Dynamo will be part of "Whiplash"? hmmm???

Iron Man 2, The Expendables, Passion Plays, St. Vincent, Broken Horses and 11 Minutes.

What nice little package Rourke has on his plate, pieces that go all around from Blockbusters to Indies.

Yeah's he's back. And I like to think he's here to stay. :D

Good to know he's varying his movie choices. This indie flick, a Bollywood hybrid, reteaming with the great Walter Hill, and Iron Man.

Now I'm surprised die-hard Iron Man fans aren't cracking jokes yet about replacing the villain with a Dudley Do-Right baddie. Not that I'd know the difference if I didn't visit this site so much.

Is it true...

that Rourke has been so uncertain for this role because they offered him an offensively low fee? Something like $200k?

Is that true or just a gossip columnist rumour?
