Phil Lord & Chris Miller reportedly being sought to helm Ghostbusters 3!

Mar. 20, 2014by: Paul Shirey

After the untimely passing of Harold Ramis, director Ivan Reitman decided to step down from directing the long-in-development GHOSTBUSTERS 3, leaving many to speculate over what could/should happen with the future of the franchise. Reitman's plan, however, was to continue to produce the film, but to hand over the keys to some new talent, thus beginning the search for a new set of filmmakers to tackle the sequel. There's a fitting number of filmmakers that could handle the property, but one such set of names (and the first that popped into my head as real contenders) are THE LEGO MOVIE and 21 JUMP STREET directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Here's the word from the street:

This is just "talking" right now, but in my mind Lord and Miller are the perfect duo to take on GHOSTBUSTERS 3. They've shown to have a real understanding of comedy, adventure, and most importantly, character, especially as it pertains to those genres. They feel like a team that has the pulse of today's audience and can appeal to both the young and old, which is a rare find. Pair them up with the right cast and I could see this being a success. Lord and Miller would no doubt pay proper respect to the original feel of GHOSTBUSTERS, while elevating it into today's culture and I'm down with that. As a lifelong GHOSTBUSTERS fan, I think this is a great choice for the franchise (if it happens, of course). But, that's just me. Let's hear what you think.

Are you down with these guys on GHOSTBUSTERS or do you have someone better in mind? Sound off below!

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Seth Rogen made a hilarious movie called Paul. I know its unrealistic, but I would love to see them team up again and tackle this as the new age 'busters. Prob won't happen but a guy can wish.

As for the Ramis comments... He was interested in doing the 3rd one...

Do you really wanna call?

Specially since Harold Ramis passed away, This movie should not be made, but if Lord and Miller direct, I hope they paid respect to the orginial feel to the Ghostbusters and dont have a cheap plot and horrible actors

Show some respect? How do you know Harold wouldn't have wanted them to make it?

No offense meant, but I wanted to set the record straight here. Harold wanted to make this movie, he was on board. So wouldn't it be the other way around?

Unlike most people I am fully supporting this movie.

I see everyone's fear. Don't get me wrong, I really do. Yet this has been a movie trying to be made for decades now, HOW that is a quick cash grab I am not entirely sure. Dannie had a dream. Now he is getting the chance to finish it. Not only that, come on guys, this is a chance for the fun side of Ghostbusters to continue. A comedy about a business that most of us dreamed about being part of as kids. I love Harold, Bill, Ernie, and Dan. However I am not up for watching older men run

However I am not up for watching older men run around trying to make a movie interesting. This is a chance for rookies and a chance to see how the business continues. There is an untabbed fandom out there, a loyal legion of people who actually WANT this to be made. So do us a favor. Stop trying to close it down and just give it a damned chance. If you don't want to see it, then don't. Yet I gaurentee most of every single person who is boo hooing this film will be paying money in one way or another to see it. I for one am looking forward to the chance to share such an awesome thing from my childhood with my own daughter. So bring it on Dan and Sony. I'll be seeing you guys on opening night.

Screw Ghostbusters 3, Harold Ramis is sadly gone and Bill Murray won't do it so who gives a fuck? I really don't care to sit through a film with the likes of Seth Rogan or whoever being unfunny as Ghostbusters characters. No thanks, Ill pass.

21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie are awesome in my book though.....

what i'm thinking will happen

is it'll be in development for a long, long time again from this point, then at some point it'll be announced as a reboot with none of the original actors, then THAT will be in development for another long, long time, and then 25 or so years from now it'll be re-announced as a remake and maybe some new people will make it then. i might be dead, so i don't care. or i'll be too old to care.

These guys will make an awesome Ghostbusters movie. I disagree more with making a Lego Movie sequel than a Ghostbusters one so this is the better of two evils for me.

When.

When will the time come where I don't shed a tear every time I read something Ghostbuster/Ramis related... It is still a touchy subject.

These guys specialize in turning "bad" ideas into shockingly good movies. IF anybody - ANYBODY - can make this work, it's these two.

If this happens than it would definitely be a huge step in the right direction. I think they would not only be able to create a great update to the Ghostbusters franchise, but they would attract the right talent to populate the movie. I trust the decision if it ever gets made.

Now whether or not it ever gets made is another story all together. I'm still very sceptical on if it will ever happen.

Clearly they haven't seen Lego Movie. They'd be better off allowing Justin Bieber and Bubbles (MJ's monkey) handle this.

If the movie is going to be made, then they're the best choice

I've liked everything they've done to date (admittedly, I haven't seen 21 JUMP STREET) so I think they'd do a great job.

But yeah, I'd be much happier if they were back on LEGO MOVIE 2.

Even though I hope the film never gets made and think the whole things is a cash grab, they would be a great choice to helm a film like this with so many different characteristics that make up the Ghostbusters world. They did a great job with 21 Jump Street and the Lego Movie and would probably do a great job with this too if the film does indeed get made.

I, like almost everyone, dont want this movie made. But they're going to make it anyway, and quite frankly this is the best choice.

This has to be happen. If I know them, they'd make fun of the fact that this a pretty much a blatant cash-grab on nostalgia while making it the best Ghostbusters movie possible.

They seem like a nice choice. Personally I'd go with James Gunn. He seems to combine horror and comedy really well.
