Ready for Star Wars Land?

Jun. 14, 2013by:

We knew that when Disney bought Lucasfilm there would be great things ahead. Okay, there would be a lot of great possibilities ahead. I cannot remark on the greatness of all ideas.

One idea that came along before Disney made the hugest deal of all time was a STAR WARS theme park. It's said that The Walt Disney Company decided to dump $1 billion into giving Disney's Hollywood Studios at Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida a make-over. It's been revealed from sources close to themeparkinsider.com that Star Wars Land is coming. Here are some details on the location within the park which will take at least 5 years to get up and going:

"The logical places for that expansion would be on either side of the existing Star Tours ride. From what I've heard, it appears that the expansion would take out the area between Star Tours and the auto stunt show stadium, including the Muppet theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area. But I've also heard of consideration of going in the opposite direction, which would place the new land on the site of the Backlot Express restaurant and Indiana Jones stunt show theater. Given that the Indy theater's used for several other events throughout the year, and that both the Muppets and Honey I Shrunk the Kids attractions long ago passed the height of their popularity, I'm hearing more forceful arguments for the first option."

Then there was more news from TheForce.net:

"Expect to see new levels added to Star Tours and some more interactive attractions, possibly an additional ride," my Disney source said. However, my source added that "most of the expansion will be environments and character meet-and-greet areas."

There are also plans to build a Mos Eisley Cantina. Will we meet and shoot Greedo first there? What do you want from Star Wars Land?

I'm all for a Star Wars themed area but seriously leave the Muppets alone! They have a movie coming out next year so they are relevant, plus that attraction is fantastic entertainment.

It's funny - even back when I was a kid and went to Disney World for the first time in the mid 90s, when "Hollywood Studios" was still called "MGM", that "4D" Muppet Show thing was already barely attended and felt kind of backwater - like you had to really search to find the thing. Also, I remember the Honey I Shrunk the Kids park being a brand new thing, but even at the time it felt like a reference to something old. Can't imagine how it would seem to kids today. Probably like a totally

Probably like a totally original invention made specifically for the park, heh.

So while it's sad that they're getting rid of them, that stuff is all kind of past its prime anyway. Definitely not a 'good riddance', but it when it's time to change it's time to change. But I agree that the Indy live show MUST remain! It's part stunt show, part special effects tutorial - way too fantastic to remove.

They already got rid of Honey I Shrunk the Audience, so I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of the playground since I don't think most kids are familiar with those movies. To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't name it a Bug's Life Playground or something. They should keep the Muppets show, even if they have to move it to a different location. They should focus more on new rides or attractions than character meet & greet spots.

Don't touch Muppets or Indy (unless you build the Indy ride from Disneyland at Disney World)

Hollywood Studios needs a revamp, badly, Epcot was more fun when I went in December. And this is me we're talking about. But don't touch the Muppets, they just got back.

Don't ever touch the Indiana Jones stunt show. Ever. Absolute first thing I saw at Disneyworld and byfar my fondest memory.

Other than that, do as you will. But don't scrimp on the Mos Eisley Cantina and a 'Build-Your-Own Lightsaber' workshop.

Actually its already been confirmed that they are working on having cars land come in to replace the car stunt show as well as parts of the backlot tour. Its nice to see more news like this though its often one of those same rumors like the infamous 5th park and the monorails connecting to all the parks. It gets buzz for a while then fades away just as quickly. I will admit I have heard a rumor that they may instead bring it to magic kingdom but then again considering the massive expenses

I will admit I have heard a rumor that they may instead bring it to magic kingdom but then again considering the massive expenses incurred from fantasy land expansion they will probably hold off on this for a while. Cars land isn't expected for at least 2 or 3 more years to come out.

So it wouldn't be a whole Star Wars park then right? Just a large section of MGM? I wish they'd make an entire park for it, they have plenty of land.

Not enough.

I would love nothing more than a Stat Wars theme park. Imagine all the ride possibilities, and all the planet-themed sections. But a small fraction of MGM studios? Just doesn't cut it. MAYBE one more ride? Seriously? There should be 20 new Star Wars rides. Again, one restaurant and a "meet and greet" area is pathetic.

Yes please - but more. Been fantasising about a whole Star Wars theme park since I was a kid, and I don't think I was alone in that. If Avatar can get a Pandora-land and Harry Potter got the Wizarding World, Star Wars more than deserves a theme park or at least a chunk of a theme park to itself. Star Tours alone just doesn't cut it.

Not the Muppets

I never cared for the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" attraction, it always seemed like a dull playground with a grass theme. The Muppets show is a classic, always great. I hope they dont take that out.

I also really love the stunt show. It's easily one of the best live shows Disney has ever produced in their parks
