See a new image of Ronan the Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy

06.25.2014

While we were distracted by this week’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY news about the role Nathan Fillion is going to have (click for spoiler), we took our focus off the man that "has ambitions that threaten the universe." I'm talking about Ronan the Accuser people! A new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY image has landed and shows off actor Lee Pace as the film's baddie.

In the movie, Ronan is after the mysterious orb which is being kept safe by our heroes Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoë Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).

Check out the image below and click on his angry face for an even bigger look.

His design definitely stands beside the rest of the movie in terms of strange and awesome. We are just over a month away from the big release and I can't wait to see what Ronan in action. For good measure, here are some more shots:

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens in 3D on August 1, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Lee Pace has described Ronan as a psycho, a monster and as evil.

The cosmic universe of Marvel's comic books has always been my favorite part of the publishers story telling. It just adds so much more depth to the whole 'spandex humans with superpowers' universe. I love what they're doing with the MCU too, by adding Guardians of the Galaxy to the equation. This opens up literally infinite story telling, that is very rich and amazing. Visuals alone make the cosmic universe a splendor on the imagination.

At this point moving forward, all I have to say is;

At this point moving forward, all I have to say is; bring on The Kree, The Shi'ar, The Inhumans, Quasar, Adam Warlcok, Nova Corps, and for the love of all Asgardian gods... GIMME BETA RAY BILL!

Oh yeah, and let's see what Marvel can do with Mar-Vell!

Hopefully the likes of Rocket Raccoon and Groot in this film pave a way for Beta Ray Bill to be in a future Thor movie soon.

Lee Pace has been working steadily for the last 10 years but I've got a feeling that between this and the Hobbit, he's gonna make it really big very soon. Love all the design work in this movie, even Glenn Close's hair.

He looks awesome. Definitely the most intimidating looking villain thus far in Phase Two and a big improvement over Mandarin and Malekith (who were both disappointedly wasted in their respected films).

Malekith was decent, although still poorly interpreted. Mandarin was just completely butchered and hacked to oblivion.

Neither were wasted! Mandarin hasn't even made his appearance yet! How was Malekith done wrong? As far as the look, this one looks like a sad boy who got into his mom's makeup, he looks horrible I think. But that's without the voice and overall personality, so I'm not exactly being fair.

So much potential

I hope Marvel is not once again in the habit of killing off a villain that has so much potential to span more than a single film. Malekith was wasted in Thor, the Mandarin was destroyed in Iron Man, and Loki has become the only memorable villain of the entire franchise.

I believe a lot of the practice comes from the fact that these characters are played by actors and it's easy for the respective actor to not be available for a sequel or a cameo especially if there's a heavy makeup and prosthetics involved. I believe that was why Alan Cummings didn't reprise Nightcrawler because of how long the makeup took for a cameo.

BMR, you are exactly correct on Alan Cummings reason for not returning as Nightcrawler.

Roy Batty, Ronan The Accuser was originally portrayed as a villain, but over time he has slowly become noble and heroic. I can imagine Marvel may bring him back as some sort of connection, within future cosmic endeavors of the MCU.
