Stephen King is in negotiations to write an episode of The Walking Dead

03.21.2011

List this under awesome news.

Stephen King told Entertainment Weekly that he is in early negotiations to write an episode of THE WALKING DEAD. Yeah I know, just one episode, but hey that's still cool in my book!

King says that Frank Darabont has, “expressed enthusiastic interest for season 2 or possibly 3.” Darabont has directed three big screen films adapted from stories of King: THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, THE GREEN MILE, and THE MIST (2007). It's also noteworthy to mention that one of Darabont's first films was a short adaptation of King's THE WOMAN IN THE ROOM. So it should come as no surprise that Darabont is interested in King writing an episode, even if it is just the one (let's hope for more).

The plan is for King to pen the episode with his son, Joe Hill who has written such horror novels as "The Heart-Shaped Box" and "Horns". The second season will take the survivors to Hershel’s Farm. Other than that, no other solid info has been offered up.

King put THE WALKING DEAD as number 2 on his list of best television shows of last year.

Extra Tidbit: How many of you actually liked THE MIST (2007)? I'm not scared to say that I did.

I loved the Mist very underrated movie. I hope the Walking Dead gets better the first half of the season was awesome but the second half was just ok. Oh yeah the best friend of the main character should be dead already, at least to me thats steering away a little too much from the comic.

Hmmm, I'm not as immediately on board this as some people might be. The show carries a delicate balance of using what's in the comic and new material, and I worry that King could f it up. The guy has a tendency to get....carried away. But, he's also a veteran of horror, so they could also be some of the best episodes of the season. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And yes, I too loved The Mist. It was like Half Life: The Movie, which is purposeful, I suppose, since Stephen

Perfect

The Mist was fantastic, a nice surprise when I saw it. I also cannot wait to see the episode he writes (just don't put a supernatural being, or an alien ship in it).

I love Stephen King and Darabont. This could be awesome, but am I the only person who thought The Walking Dead Started to fall flat after a few episodes? Maybe I just compared it too much to the comic...

I'm with the other guys here, The Mist is fucking awesome! I love that movie so much. I am hard pressed to think of a better horror movie that has come out in the past 5 years.

extra tisbit:(spoiler) Why would you be ashamed to say you liked The Mist? The movie was awesome, and when he shoots his little boy and wife in the end and is about to shoot himself when the military comes I almost cried! I would love to see what King would do for an episode of The Walking Dead! Awesome!

Nice! Liked the first season of Walking Dead. One of the better shows last year (LOST will always be my absolute favorite, everytime). My only beef was that the zombies are more pathetic than dangerous. You tend to feel sorry for them a lot. Which is bad. I want to see their heads get blown to bits, like in Zombieland, not cry for them. But anyway, solid show, and hopefully King will do a solid job.

I dunno, Ive kind of had enough of the 'killing zombies is fun' movies for the time being, I love Walking Dead as it takes it back to the Romero roots and explores how characters would react to zombie-geddon in a more believable way.

Also, agree on Lost! There is a horrible Lost shaped hole in my life - hoping Game of Thrones will ease the pain!

This news can't have no "This is a bad idea" rating. Seriously.

I'm all for it as long as King doesn't write himself into the episode as a plot device.

The Mist is very under-rated. Tom Jane gave a great performance and the ending - while manipulative - was strong. I had waited a long time for a Mist movie and I really thought that it did the short story some justice.

I don't know, to each his own. But I much preferred knowing what actually happened to the characters.

It was brutal, but I like it as riding off into the sunset (or mist-set. whatever) is so cliched...

Great news. With rumors of Edgar Wright directing an episode and now Stephen King confirmed writing an episode, the excitement level for Season 2 is now at a high level.

This is great news. Hopefully this works out. King will come up with a good story for sure. Although wonder if he will be hamstringed somewhat in the confines of the source material.
As for the tidbit. The Mist is in my top 5 of all time fav horror flicks. Absolutely loved it!! Watch it in the Black and White directors version. Its a much creepier feel to the movie and you lose the cheesy cgi.
