The lord of the apes swings into action in first Legend of Tarzan trailer

12.09.2015

Earlier today the first poster for THE LEGEND OF TARZAN was unveiled and now we finally have the pleasure of witnessing David Yates' Tarzan epic in action. The film stars Alexander Skarsgard as the titular character as well as Margot Robbie as Jane, but instead of focusing on the traditional Tarzan story of a man being raised by apes, THE LEGEND OF TARZAN will take place a decade after Tarzan, now John Clayon III, left his home in the Congo and began living the life of a British gentleman in 1880's Victorian London.

"He's Tarzan, you're Jane, he'll come for you."

I'll be honest, my first thought as the trailer drew to a close was "that doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it'd be." Although the film takes place years after Tarzan has left the jungle behind, THE LEGEND OF TARZAN will still feature plenty of vine-swinging and cliff-jumping action once Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard) and Jane (Margot Robbie) make their return to the Congo. Skarsgard previously teased that THE LEGEND OF TARZAN is "almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast, this is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out." THE LEGEND OF TARZAN hits theaters on July 1, 2016.

What do you folks thinks, does THE LEGEND OF TARZAN look more promising than you'd imagined?

Bit too CG heavy...

But does look like fun. I've always been a fan of Tarzan, but I disagree with some of those below saying that there hasn't been a great live action version of Tarzan. It might be the nostalgia in me, but I have always loved Greystoke, despite the weird dub over of Andie MacDowell's voice.

At least there hasn't been a great Tarzan movie as of yet, so the bar is set low out of the gate (though I do love the Disney animated movie)
I'll see it, but I don't have high hopes and honestly I'm getting a little sick of Margot Robbie, or maybe it's just that she's always playing the stereotypical love interest and it's not actually her fault.

I can't shake that I have this feeling the movie won't measure up. I mean it has everything you need. Alexandser Skarsgard as Tarzan seems logical casting. Margot Robbie hasn't failed me yet. Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson are the most badass actors in Hollywood of late. And the trailer looks pretty damn exciting. But I've seen movies where it was obvious the studio had the right idea, they got all the right people. And when the movie came out it was less than the sum of its parts. I

I really hope this movie isn't like that.

Looks a lot better than I expected

Didn't think I would be interested in seeing a live-action adaptation of Tarzan but boy did that trailer sell me.

As much as I hate these unoriginal, redo something that's been successful in the past the best I can do is hope they're good. This looks very good. Tarzan as a high action movie. IT actually makes me want to see it way more than I ever would have thought I would for a Tarzan film.

Also I think everything Christph Waltz is in is made better just by his mere presence. That and Samuel L. Jackson apparently still playing his Hateful Eighth character really sold me!

Getting closer to release, it could use one more trailer to sell me. It looks like a fun adventure movie, quite a good cast to hopefully draw more people in. Not sure why they left that scene in where the Buffalo are running into that city, looked like a half done cgi piece.

Hahahaha... looks ridiculous. Laughed the whole time watching the trailer. And the tone is so serious. It's dark Tarzan.. grounded in reality. ..omg lol

Hm. Well, that looks like an okay flick. I didn't follow the casting news of this movie so seeing Sam L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz there is a welcome surprise.

Did those apes build that baby carriage? If so, that's incredibly considerate.

The most memorable moment of this trailer for me was seeing Waltz and realizing he isn't in hateful 8.

What happened to the director of hustle and flow? Wasn't he attached to this at one time?

Yes. Yes the apes built the baby carriage. It wasn't that hard to make.

This looks like a hell of a lot of fun. The trailer gave off a reminiscent feeling of John Carter, and Lone Ranger; and if this film is just as good as those, I'll be happy.

And Skarsgard looks perfect as Tarzan. Hopefully this does well enough and is a stepping stone to get him into some more bigger roles and films.

Also, Alex has definitely bulked up from his leaner days as a model and True Blood, he looks WAY better like this.

I'd like to see him as Thor. I actually really like Hemsworth, but wish I could see Alex has Thor for a flick

I didn't think I would say this but

WOW this looks good. I am not sure what JohnnyDrama is talking about for terrible cgi. while it isn't done yet, it looks pretty rock solid to me.

Only a few shots i the trailer. Tarzan jumping off the cliff and the stampede of bulls. Like I said, I know it's not finished yet. I just hate when there are too many giant cgi sequences in these kinds of films. Always takes me out of the movie if it's not high quality. Thought the apes in the trailer looked fantastic

Looks like a kinda cool period piece... Didn't expect a whole lot from this but the trailer looked pretty intriguing. Long time till this comes out so I will over look there terrible CGI in action the sequences. I'm thinking a John Carter-esque box office for this though. I loved John Carter and hope this (if it's as good) doesn't suffer it's same fate.
