There’s no arguing that Chris Pratt was one of the best casting decisions in recent comic book history, and as such it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Star Lord. However, director James Gunn recently let slip that if Pratt wasn’t down for taking on the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, another actor wasn’t too far behind. The runner-up? None other than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Glenn Howerton.

In Gunn’s own words:

Glenn came along a little bit later, but there was a good chance that, if I didn’t cast Chris, that I would’ve cast Glenn Howerton in the role.

I’m a huge fan of It’s Always Sunny and Howerton would have been a very interesting choice. I don’t think there’s any denying the charm Chris Pratt brings to any role, so I doubt many feel bad about the final decision. Personally I would love to see Howerton in a different Marvel role, though. Also, for you users of Google Play, the Awesome Mix Tape Vol. I is available to download for free today (America only)! So if you don’t already own this bad boy and you’re residing stateside, head here and download yourself a copy!

Glenn Howerton will always have Lethal Weapon 5.
