The official Creed synopsis hints at Rocky's losing battle

creed 2015

We finally have the first official synopsis for the upcoming ROCKY spinoff CREED which is set to hit theaters this holiday season. Warner Bros. and MGM Pictures reveal what sounds to be a rather fitting entry into the series and should even serve as a passing of the torch. The film stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, the son of world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed. Sylvester Stallone is back to reprise his most iconic role as Rocky Balboa. The film reunites Jordan with this FRUITVALE STATION director Ryan Coogler.

Check out the official synopsis for CREED:

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born.  Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa. Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.  Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend.  Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring. With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

There's a lot of story in that first synopsis: We learn that Rocky is likely battling health problems in his old age and we know the first act of the film will be his hesitation to take on the young protégé. Saying that of course, I was one of the many cheering (on the inside) in theaters when I saw ROCKY BALBOA. I didn’t think this franchise has life left but it sounds like there are a few more rounds to go.

CREED will open on November 25, 2015.

Do you think this is the end of the Rocky character?

Weird...

Up until now it was supposed to be Apollo's grandson, now it's his son which seems more likely. But what's up with the name change? Adonis Johnson? No Adonis Creed? And his father died before he was born? No he didn't because we him running around in Rocky 2. Hope they fix this stuff because continuity errors bug the hell out of me!

Make Rocky the new Mickey character.

That last boxing movie with Kevin Hart and DeNiro was terrible.

I really hope they keep this movie in tone with the first two Rocky films. Make Rocky the new Mickey character, just don't kill him off. That is a stupid ending and ruins the whole franchise. We can't have the death of Rocky on film. It is too much of a generation ender. Knowing that Rocky is dead, just doesn't feel right.

I've always enjoyed the Rocky movies...and whilst many consider 5 to be the problem one, I enjoyed that too. Hopefully they'll reference that movie when it comes to any hesitation on Balboa's part when it comes to taking on training duties of another young guy seeking his help. Does he really want to help train someone else after the Tommy experience?

I've loved these films forever. And I'll be there on opening day. But don't kill Rocky, PLEASE, Sly - Don't kill Rocky off. It will taint the message in the other films. Bad idea killing Rocky.

Pretty excited for this. If Stallone plays a film pretty close to the chest, you know it's going to be special.

If Sly is making it, it'll be good. I think he's done good by us with his characters.

Rocky Balboa was a surprisingly great movie with one of Stallone's greatest scenes and lines ever. I have no problem with this, though I feel like spinoff may not be quite the word for it. I get that this is about Apollo's kid, but I feel like this will be as much about Rocky. It seems to me this is a film that is trying to bring Rocky's story to a close while passing on the torch to a new generation. I can live with that, but it's going to be very hard to make a movie that kills off what is

If the film isn't good, then it will be a horrendous decision for Rocky to die.

I'm fine with the spin-off, as unnecessary as it is, because if it sucks I can always say it's not a "Rocky" movie. However if they kill Rocky with some craptastic health issue I'm going to be annoyed. Killing Rocky makes this an important "Rocky" movie, and Rocky deserves more than a death in a spin-off.

I have no idea why (which is really weird, I know), but I am REALLY excited for this film. Just something about it makes me look really forward to seeing it.

Going to be a good addition to the franchise

I'm actually working on this film and as I might not go into detail about it, I will say that everyone will enjoy the final product for sure. Solid entry into the franchise.

Hopefully they get Duke and Paulie in there. Be great to see Apollo's old crew helping train his son. And yeah, don't kill Rocky. At the Balboa screening I went to on opening day, people were cheering during the training montage and also while the final fight was happening. Cheering like they were actually watching it happen to a real person. That's a connection with the audience that very few characters have. You don't kill that character. Part of Rocky's tragedy is that he loses people he loves, loses fights, friends, etc and still keeps pushing. He needs to live. Part 6 was such a fitting end, I'd hate to see that lost in another flick, but in Stallone I trust.

Balboa quickly became my 2nd favorite or maybe even tied with the 1st entry in the series. I have been looking forward to this Creed movie since first hearing of it BUT i REALLY do not want to see Rocky die in this flick. .. Rocky needs to live on

I clicked on this thinking it was a prequel, and Jordan was playing Apollo.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that wasn't the case, and am now looking forward to seeing this. Loved Rocky Balboa. I'm sure we can expect Rocky to die in this though, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Very Excited

This is one of my most anticipated of the year. "Rocky Balboa" was SUCH a good movie, and proved that when committed and engaged, Stallone can still bring it. "Fruitvale Station" was a revelation, and hiring Ryan Coogler -- along with giving it a late November release -- is an indication that the studio is trying for something much more than a quick cash grab on the Rocky name. I'm expecting great things!

I might not have been for Jordan in FF4 but damn if I'm not excited as hell for this. He is a great actor and I think he'll eat up this role. Rocky Balboa was such an amazing bookend to the original it. Stallone really showed the characters of Rocky and Rambo the respect and ending they deserved in the last two movies. I know another Rambo is coming, and I can tell he just can't let go of Rocky. If he truly can't, this is a such a great way to continue the Rocky story. By bringing up his

By bringing up his fiercest rival, and best friend's child to claim his legacy. This could be something special.

I am so excited for this film. But I really hope they don't kill Rocky off. I'm hoping that Rocky can win the fight over what I am assuming is cancer.

Pleasantly Surprised

That actually sounds way better than I had anticipated. Not that I want to see Ana amazing character like Rocky die but it sounds like if he does it'll be in a much more dignified and respectful way than the last time Stallone considered killing him off (during his fight with Tommy Gunn in Rocky V) I'm actually really looking forward to this as a fan of all the movies in the series!
