The Spirit trailer

Apr. 20, 2008by: Dave Davis
While those who attended Comic Con in New York this weekend undoubtedly got to see some cool stuff, at least the juicy morsels are trickling online for the rest of us.

Comic craftsman turned movie maker Frank Miller unveiled some imagery from his adaptation of Will Eisner's iconic character THE SPIRIT, including this early teaser trailer. So far it seems stylistically consistent with Miller's only previous (co-)directing effort SIN CITY. I'll admit I expected the hero to be more of a street brawler than an acrobatic parkour expert, but the teaser is just a example of the intended aesthetic (although a glimpse at the extensive cast of luscious ladies would've been appreciated). If you can't access it via the MTV site below, try THIS LINK.

Extra Tidbit: I assume the completed movie won't actually use Morricone's theme from THE UNTOUCHABLES...

It's a Frank Miller pic... I wasn't expecting anything less. It looks good for me, but then again, maybe I just lack high standards. (Except that Jessica Rabbit untoon pic is rather creepy).

What a waste!

They have a minute to get us people interested and that is what they give us? I don't know who to blame, the studio or the person that thought that would emit anything even slightly regarding a positive response!! If anything that makes me even less excited. I get that it is almost a year away, but c'mon!!

I was pretty surprised to see this so closely match the style of "Sin City." Then again, that was popular, and maybe that's what the powers that be want for this film. But, even in the 1940s, the Spirit's adventures were in color. I thought the visuals would more resemble Eisner's visuals than Miller's. That said, this could still be cool. "Sin City" was an excellent film (and comic book series), so, maybe I just need to prepare myself for The Spirit by way of Sin City.

wrong

This is all wrong. Although the Spirit was sometimes dark in nature, it was not heavy-handed and brooding like this. It was not Miller's Batman or his Sin City. It was bold and adventurous and COLORFUL.

I'm now pretty sure Miller is the wrong person for this job, and the rehash of Sin City looks to me pretty disrespectful to Eisner's work.

Also, I feel like this movie is going to make a lot of people tired of the green screen red-only effects and Sin City 2 will not be as popular as it

LAME!

I realize this is a teaser, but come on...Why copy the exact style of Sin City? Frank Miller has an amazing style with his comic work but this is Will Eisner's work, that should be honored.

same shit.

well i am expecting a different style from a comic book artist, there are loads of comic book styles around, looks like miller loves money more than working on different things.

trailer looks like mario bros "return of the evil plumber".

That's a dumb tidbit. I mean, you hardly ever hear an original score in a preview anymore, but that doesn't mean since they used another movie's score as trailer music they would use it in the actual movie. If that was the case I Know Who Killed Me, Death Sentence, and Beowulf all would have had the theme from 28 Days Later in it.

Besides that, the movie looks pretty interesting.

Looks exactly like Sin City, by which I mean it looks nothing like The Spirit.

Yikes

Guys its on youtube: j1F-97xJ33E
Now I'm a big ole Miller fan but man alive, how bad does the wirework look? It already looks like the inevitable pardoy of itself. I know its a year away and all, but this is the teaser! I feel tainted!

Pretty neat teaser, even if it's a bit too similar to Miller's other work "Sin City".

Movie Music

Yeah, I was at the con theater for this and it was asked if the music was going to be the same. Frank said the score is going to be fully original for the film.

Awesome teaser.

For sure

I'm certainly anticipating this.

'(although a glimpse at the extensive cast of luscious ladies would've been appreciated).'

Oh boo-hoo. :D
