This six minute clip from Anna Karenina gives us a glimpse at Joe Wright's unique interpretation

07.23.2012

There are only so many times you can film a classic novel without it feeling like you are going through the motions. Every now and then you need to do something unique. Baz Luhrmann successfully moved Shakespeare to a contemporary setting with ROMEO + JULIET. But, how do you make the material unique without changing the source material?

Joe Wright's ANNA KARENINA is true to the Tolstoy novel and incorporates an interesting motif to make the film a unique experience. The film itself is treated like a play in a theater. As you can see in this six minute clip from the film, the story we are watching on film is happening on a stage within the movie. Very unique. Bravo, Mr. Wright.

Check out the clip below.

Plot: The story powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness and marriage, change comes to all around her.

Directed by Wright, written by Tom Stoppard, and starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfayden, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Alicia Vikander, ANNA KARENINA opens November 9th, 2012.
