Trek: Your thoughts?

May. 8, 2009by:

STAR TREK day is here! As a non-Trekkie, I never thought I'd be excited about a STAR TREK movie in theaters but, alas, here we are. Word of mouth on the film has been insanely high and both of our review of the film - JimmyO's review and Chris' review - were a 9.5/10, which is pretty astounding.

We've had a lot of coverage of TREK since the film was announced including, most recently, our interviews with John Cho and Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy plus an interview with producer Damon Lindelof.

But enough from us. While many of you caught the sneak peeks of TREK last night, there are still plenty of you who have plans to go the rest of the weekend. You've heard us talking about the film, now we want YOU to share your thoughts. We'll leave the Strike Backs wide open on this article and we encourage all of you to post your reviews of STAR TREK below and discuss and debate the film with your fellow schmoes. WOLVERINE had over 128 fan reviews posted so let's see if TREK fans are even more passionate than that... ;)

Finally, to help celebrate, is the Top 10 list from last night's "Late Show with David Letterman." Mr. Nimoy was on hand to present the Top 10 Things Never Heard Before in a STAR TREK Film. And I just can't believe that no one has ever said "Set your phasers to fabulous!"

From a true Star Wars Fan

I liked it. As a matter of fact, the movie had me before the title of the movie was out.

OK SO...

Just got back from watching it and I have to say, with all the word of mouth on this bitch I expected more. Now I wasn't dissatisfied nor was I blown away. I guess to me it was just ehhh, O.K. Great action, great special effects, and of course great characters but the whole time travel deal makes me feel like Im not getting the real Kirk and the real Spock. Or am I? Which timeline is cannon? Will Khan ever come into play or will this new timeline deprive me of that great story? Or did that

Which timeline is cannon? Will Khan ever come into play or will this new timeline deprive me of that great story? Or did that already happen but it wont anymore? WTF is going on? Now before you all start ripping my head off I need to say that I do understand time travel and what happened but Im trying to make a point. I love most of the original Trek movies and if those tales arent going to occur than should I forget they happened? Those original movies helped shaped the Trek universe and the people that we love in them and without those stories we start over. Get it?

I personally thought it was genius, the Spock and Uhura stuff. By starting a whole new timeline, you introduce a ton of new possibilities, like the aforementioned pair being together. Now I will admit that I may not be a Trek lifer like you strongliketheoa, but I think the changes were great. And I personally was much more engaged with this film than other other Treks, maybe save for II and IV.

yes seriously

i understand the concept of time travel and the inherent flaw of all movies that employ the concept. my issue with the time travel in trek, however, was how little concern there was for the source material. spock and uhura?! i get killing kirks dad, but certain elements, elements that made the show so iconic (remember that interracial kiss?), should not be changed. and honestly, had that been the only flaw of the film, and had i actually been engaged by it, i totally would have let the

Seriously?

strongliketheoa, obviously you're not too familiar with the concepts of time travel. This film presented an alternate reality (that occurred with Nero going back in time), whereas everything Trek that came before now exists alongside this film in a parralel time.

baaah!

i suppose i'm part of a minority here, but as a light trek fan i left the theater so dissapointed. how true fans like this is beyond me seeing as how its just one huge, cheap retcon, even more ridiculous than crisis on infinite earths. kudos to abrhams for figuring out a way to make another ten films. too bad it pretty much undermines every other classic trek film because, wtf?, none of that happened? but even worse than all that was the fact the every character was so shallowly portrayed

Saw it again tonight at a 9:45 show. Only ten peope were in the theatre which was great! No pain in the ass teenie boppers with their fucking cell phones. It didn't impress me any more or less the second time. It just was. It was still kinda like Star Trek 90210 with beautiful people. It was ok. But since it's in an alternate timeline, it didn't screw up the good Star Trek with the Shat, so I can live with it. I don't know if I'm banging down the door for a sequel right away. This love of the film has me baffled but then there is a crowd who swears the Dark Knight was the best movie ever. I was DK twice and that was way more than enough. I had issues with the Trek story, but since the thing is up and running and the crew is the one that is known, they can forget this film and how they all magically got together on the same bridge and do a straight away adventure with no set up next time, which should make for a better movie. Part of me now feels for the Superman fan who saw George Reeves as Superman, and then this new kid named Christopher Reeve came along. Shatner is still the man!

Loved it!

I've always been a big Star Wars fan and not really into Star Trek. I watched TNG with my dad and thoughts Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home were by far the best films. To me Star Trek was never about action or excitement. After all, Star Wars had lightsabers and Darth Vader, Star Trek had Tribbles.

But I went with my Dad to see Star Trek and I loved it. I'm a JJ Abrams fan and he infused life into this franchise. It had action AND character. Overall this was a great time and I am looking

And it melted my face with awesome yet again. What an amazing film. This really is going to be the best movie of the summer... so just go and see the rest of the flicks with that in mind, because nothing is going to top this film.

A red head, a brunette, and a blonde walk into an elevator. Then a guy walks in the elevator. The red head says "he's cute", then the brunette says "he needs head and shoulders", and lastly the blond says "how do you give a guy shoulders?"

Now I know how everyone felt when they saw Star Wars for the first time

...because that's exactly what this felt like for me. Like TDK with Batman, this is THE DEFINITIVE Star Trek experience. Growing up I watched ST:TNG with my mom and my brother but I was NEVER a Trekkie. But dammit...I think I may actually become one if Abrams turns this baby into a franchise.

9/10 without even a hesitation.

And possibly a 10/10 with a second viewing.

i'm not a big "trekkie" fan, i've actually never watched star trek in my entire life.
but i'm real excited about seeing this movie.

and to the rebooting of the star wars comment, i think that would be a terrible idea, they should really just let it be how it is.
it was a great movie, no reboot needed.

On top of that...

On top of my 10/10 rank, I must make a comment. I've been a Trekkie my whole life and when Spock tells Kirk that "I am and always shall be...your friend"...I had tears streaming down my face as I went right back to when I was a little kid again. Thank you J.J!

"...AWESOME..."

I was in no way before this movie a star trek fan at all! but now having seen it, I must say it is probably one of the most flawless and single most epic sci-fi films ever made. perfect casting, great story, beautiful visuals and effects. deserves 10/10 from any point of view. i was a big star wars fan before, but after the pile of steaming shit episodes 1-3 were a mockery of the whole saga I no longer give a shit. I now cant wait to see another star trek movie made with this new cast in this

I am VERY hip to the new Star Trek film.

Where has the fun been all this time?

I'm going a second time soon.

[I'm listening to the soundtrack online at this moment. Wow.]

It Was Good...

I liked this movie. The pacing was good, I was invested in the characters and the special effects were awesome. However, I'm surprised so many people are head over heels in love with this movie. The ending seemed anti climatic at best. Maybe it's just me but in the end I just didn't seem to care what happened. Still worth watching a second time though...

If I had to nitpick

Amazing movie, but if I had to nitpick I would say I had a big problem with the bad guys. It seems that every movie these days that is produced in Hollywood has antagonists' reason to be "evil" so lame, dumb and cheesy that I can't begin to take them seriously. Because of that, I really don't care if the good guys get them in the end. Other than that, the movie was awesome. 8.5/10

As a StarTrek-fan I've been looking forward to this movie a long time and had very high expectations. All I can say is that it was even better than what I could have imagined in my wildest dreams.

Cast was great. The cast interpretations of their characters was spot on. Eg. Karl Urban as McCoy was excellent!

A solid 9 out of 10.

Good But...

I thought the pacong, cinematography, music, and special effects were all incredible. Most of the fight scenes were well handled and enjoyable, and all the actors suited their charactes nciely, however, the only characters with any depth tp them were Kirk and Spock. Karl Urban as Bones was perfectly cast, but only gets a few thigns to do, which is the case with most of the other players. Zoe Saldana is fine as Uhrua (spelling?), but man, her character is soo boring. Also, the ending with the

Great film!

I am soooo not a Trekkie... but this film rocked! JJ is a great director and deserves much praise. The acting was solid and the story was great! It exceeded my expectations and was the perfect summer blockbuster! I enjoyed Wolverine more, but only because I am a major comic book fan.

Wow..... Just, WOW. I've been a trek fan all my life. (I even tolerated Voyager and Enterprise.) I think this one beats out Khan, which is pretty high praise. LOVED the warp FX. LOVED the plot. LOOOVED the acting! Although, Chekov was a little bit overdone, one or two jokes too many, Spock and Ohura was a little hard to buy into. If not for those MINOR issues, I'd give it a 10/10. Going to see it again; this time in IMAX. With all the awesome movies coming out week after week for the

Going to see it again; this time in IMAX. With all the awesome movies coming out week after week for the next couple of months, I don't know how I'm going to find the time to go back to see TREK again, but I will....... Seriously, WOW!!!

I was never a fan of star trek, I have never watched a single episode or movie, but I really liked this movie. It has a good mix of comedy and action, and a good story line, but it probably got some people confused with all the time travel. Overall I thought it was a good movie.

I only have two minor complaints, the begining and Banna's character. The intro couldve used a little more suspenseful moments; it's rather bland compared to the rest of the picture, and Banna should've stuck to his Australian accent for a more menacing effect; I mean he's been waiting along time for revenge.

I hope this is not forgotten after opening weekend, I always laughed at people who called themselves Trekkies; everything about them was sad -- honoring an outdated series and bad

I hope this is not forgotten after opening weekend, I always laughed at people who called themselves Trekkies; everything about them was sad -- honoring an outdated series and bad films; it was like Elvis fans in space. But as of today, I've seen the light, thanks to JJ Abrams. This is like others have mentioned the CASINO ROYALE of a series. A great re-introduction to characters long since forgotten by the general public due to overindulgences of the property owners. It was like watching all that was good about RAIDERS, & STARWARS; the feel of excitement, danger and having fun adventure with "new" characters. It made me wonder why Speilberg & Lucas could never recapture the magic. I will definately see this once more at the theaters. And will try harder not to laugh at Trekkies, for now.

Best flick since The Dark Knight

10/10

I honestly can't find a single thing wrong with this movie. Not a one. It was extremely well written, acted, and filmed. It was very respectful to the original (tons of homages to the show and the movies, especially Khan) while invigourating it with new life. Which is why I compare it to The Dark Knight (and Batman Begins) in that both took familar characters and subject material and through sheer skill and talent, managed to breathe new life into it.

This film actually made me like Kirk (he got on my nerves in the past - obviously that was Shatner) and the cast was uniformly excellent. A special shoutout to Karl Urban as McCoy - I didn't realize he was McCoy until after the flick and this is the first time I've seen him in a non-brooding action role (such as in the LOTR), he nailed the character (as did everyone else come to think of it)

Also, Uhura was smoking hot :)

AMAZING

Went to see this at the IMAX last night and was 100% blown the-f*ck-away! Absolutely brilliant, JJ Abrams might in fact be my favorite director after this. I love "Lost" and "Mission Impossible 3" was great (and very under rated). This movie just tops everything he's done.

I'll also note that I am in no way a "Trekkie". I watched some of the original Star Trek films way back and did enjoy them, but don't remember them in detail. This being a complete reboot of the franchise vs just

This being a complete reboot of the franchise vs just another entry in the saga, made me want to see it. And what a way to bring this movie back into the new age main stream crowd.

I highly recommend this to everyone, and from what I've been reading Star Trek die hards are loving it as well.

This will most likely be the best film of the summer...which sucks since summer hasn't even started yet.

NO I WILL see it again.... and again.... aaaand again. lol.

SPOILER>
I watched it again last night with my mate who is a bigger Trek NUTJOB than I am and within the 1st 10 odd minutes turned to me and said "well... There's the 1st mistake" cant remember exactly what it was... something to do with Kirk's old man. Anyway as the film progressed and it turned out to be a story regarding time travel and alternate universe mumbo jumbo I leant in towards his ear with a grin mind you and whispered " that thing ya mentioned earlier.... Yeah you can scrub that eh.

I strongly urge everyone to see it again as you get so much more out of it the second time. Using alternate universe theory stuff makes this movie and future films work coz if they hadn't then it would be a little difficult to slot stories in amongst events that have already happened. Well that's my theory anyway.
I was going to post this in a red box so it would stand out but... I can't bring myself to do it. :-)

BEST TREK EVER!!

Yes, better than WoK and TUC! Perhaps not quite as good as Best of Both Worlds or All Good Things, but certainly a brilliant direction for the Series to go.

It could have been better (as always), but it was finally a good blockbuster again. Great fast food entertainment. The only thing coming a little short was the score and the villain. A good 7.5-8 out of 10.

WOW, is this the best reviewed movie of 2009 [until now], or what?

Yes, I loved it too! It had one of the most memorable intros in years, I had teary eyes when... SPOILERS /// Kirk's father sacrifices himself *** SPOILERS END ///

The story is great fun, the visuals are top-notch, I was impressed at how the inside of the Enterprise changed, particularly the engine room (!!), it now looks like a factory and not like just a room with a big cillindre in the middle. The phasers always bugged

The phasers always bugged me before, because of the continuous fire, glad to see them fixed.

But most importantly, the cast wowed me and some really felt like younger versions of the original crew. I think the best was Karl Urban, then Pike and then Zachary Quinto as Spock.

All in all, an incredible reboot of the Star Trek franchise, on par with Casino Royale and Batman Begins.

Impressive

I had more fun watching the first half hour of this movie than I did sitting through the entirety of Wolverine. Impressive on all fronts---you could tell that the makers of this film wanted to do it right, not just do it now so that they could move on to a sequel. I normally do not see movies twice in a theater, but this one I will--even at 9 Euros per ticket!

And a Slusho!

I'll jump right to the point...

10/10

Why? I got exactly what I expected walking in. That doesn't happen often. The film dares to be different where others failed to be the same.

The cast, writing, effects, sound design (wow!), editing, cinematography... and most importantly, direction were superb.

I believe JJ Abrams just took a seat in my top 10 directors working today.

Can't wait to get back to the theatre to see it again.

I hope the sequel follows sooner rather than

Needs More Sulu!

Anton Yelchin got annoying fast(yeah the accent was funny a few times),and Nero wasn't very impressive as Star Trek villians go but those were the only real problems I had with the movie..other than that everything was tops...Karl Urban and John Cho(who Definitely needed more screen time) stole the whole movie.

Good news bad news

After seeing the Star Trek movie, the bad news is that TNG and DS9 will never happen in this continuity because Spock will be able to tell them about the Borg, Q, the Dominion and the Wormhole, things they didn't know about before and weren't prepared for. The good news is that Voyager will never happen. At least the movie was good in its own right.

Boldy Re-Imagined Like No One Has Done Before

I was very skeptical when I heard about J.J.Abrams doing Star Trek. It's always been hit or miss with him and I. But when I saw STAR TREK last night (and in IMAX too), I was blown away! The cast, the script, the pace, everything was just awesome! I'll be seeing this once more before the weekend is over!

Now this film IS how you start the summer movie season!

Incredible movie! I was worried Quinto and Pegg would just be themselves, instead of the characters (like Jim Carrey as Jim Carrey in Batman Forever) but no, they surprised the hell outta me. INCREDIBLE movie. Saw it today, seeing it again Sunday! There's an video on TheOnion.com titled "Star Trek fans outraged about new Star Trek movie: Call it "Watchable and Fun." Ain't that the truth! Never a big ST nerd, but this movie did what a great reboot should, makes me want to go take a closer look

7.5/10

Not a Trek fan but I always wanted to watch the original series because it seemed like the only one that I could into. So I watched about 5 episodes to brace myself for the movie and I already love the show. Now for the movie I must say it is a excellent sci-fi movie. The design of the movie is beautiful. The acting was great and the characters were well translated. Every positive thing has been said so far so I'll mention a few gripes I had to bring this thing down to a 7.5.

My main gripe was the camera work. The camera seemed to be all over the place and on the IMAX screen I got a little disorientated sometimes shooting my head back and forth a lot trying to keep track of what was going on. Maybe seeing this on a smaller screen will be better.
Why the hell couldn't they slip Shatner in there? They could of slipped him in there somewhere.
Overall, it was a very good film and I look forward to seeing it again. I think the second time seeing it might improve my opinion.
And what's up with Abrams and time travel? Lost, Fringe, and time travel in Star Trek.

Star Trek...

...was the BEST film I've seen this weekend! --I really wish they would have shown the Enterprise actually lifting off from the ship yards... have a big spectacle with it-- would have been cool. I would trade out the scene of Scotty going through the plumbing for that if I could. Oh...the dreams I have... guess I'l have to see it again:)

Wasn't impressed by the trailer

I went in not expecting much, but WOW was I amazed. I saw Wolverine first today, thought it was good but the last fight scene reminded me something that would be in the mortal kombat movies. Loved everything about Star Trek, great writting directing, action packed from start to finish not a single frame of the movie lost my interest. The bar has been set to high, there will never be a better Star Trek movie made.

Blew Me Away

This is without doubt the best film I've seen this year... and let's be honest, has there really been anything worthy of love so far this year any way?

This film gets all my love, and I honestly doubt any film will top it this summer.

I will also say this, Cameron better bring the heat with Avatar, because in my opinion, Abrams just threw down the gauntlet.

GO SEE THIS MOVIE

I'm gonna cut all the bullshit right now and let you know I am not a Trekkie. I caught a couple of episodes of TNG as a kid and dug Worf in some of those movies.. but I knew very little to nothing about the original characters.

This movie kicked my ass and the entire audience I saw it with all around the theater, into the projector room, down the aisle, through the emergency fire exit, back into the theater and into a gigantic bag of popcorn.

I won't let you know anything at all about

I won't let you know anything at all about the plot except that it's a lot funnier and much more witty then I expected. The action scenes and CGI are top notch and the cast delivers on an epic scale. The story is cleverly panned out throughout the movie and will please all fans. Make no mistake about it, this is far and away one of the best movies of the year.. not just the summer.

This movie ended with a huge applause from a packed theater at 1:40pm in Delaware... YOU. WILL. LOVE IT.

My highest recommendation.. 9.5/10

Expected to hate it!

I've been against this movie from the very start...but actually managed to be pretty fun! I'd still argue that it's the least "Star Trek" feeling of the franchise, but due to (covering their asses by) altering the timeline, you can't argue continuity. Think of it as a mirror universe installment and suddenly anything goes. I thought I'd hate Chris Pine, but he did a great job. All of the cast did. I didn't like the design of any of the ships and I HATED the bridge. And why did every scene

Overall, best "summer" movie I've seen in a great while.

It was absolutely fantastic. Really makes you wonder what, say, The Search For Spock would have been like with a bigger budget. The story was dead on for a Trek film, and it felt like a Trek film, but it was just... really really good for a change. I'm not saying the other films weren't ALL terrible, but I can watch this one without being completely stoned and still enjoy it. Definitely blew the living shit out of Wolverine.

Wonderful!

Great fun, great cast. My only problem -- the Vulcan surprise. Hope they find a way to undo that. I mean, wow, that's just too big a change, and the implication for future films is a real bummer.

I'm not going to write a long review about how i liked it... I'll keep it short and simple... I mostly loved it, GREAT visual effects, great cast (particulary Quinto, Pine, Bana, and Urban) along with everyone else, great action... you can't ask for anything more, except for a sequel of course! :)

9/10

Can't wait to see it again today

I went to a screening a couple weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. The first time around I think there were a couple parts in the storyline that I thought had a couple holes or something missing or something along those lines. I still loved it though and gave it 9/10 the first time.

Then I thought about it for about a week and half and went to another screening. It was even better the second time around! Whatever bothered me from the first time made total sense the second time around and

The cast is incredible and I really, really hope that they all stay together in any sequels. There are lots of funny lines, but it seems to be just the perfect amount to keep balanced with all the action scenes and the few dramatic scenes sprinkled in there. Plus, it looks amazing, the visuals are stunning, and I know I will be buying this one on Blu Ray when it comes out.

So the second time around I think I would give it somewhere between a 9.5-10/10. Definitely going to see it again. I've seen it twice already, but i haven't seen it on IMAX yet!

Extra tidbit - if anyone else cares, there is only one person in the entire movie with any real facial hair. Tyler Perry.

New Trek Rules

Saw it last night at an 8pm showing, and had high expectations as I'm more a JJ Abrams superfan. Fringe and Lost are the best shows on TV, and other than Family Guy and American Dad, are the only things truly worth watching in the weekly timeslot and not on DV-R. I enjoyed Star Trek casually, but other than Wrath of Khan the movies aren't anything to watch over and over. This movie is different.

From the opening sequence on the Kelvin (which I have to admit, the end of that scene was so good I got a little misty), until the end credits rolled this movie was as close to flawless as you can get. The cast was great. The story great. The only thing that can remotely be considered a negative was that the Uhurra/Spock relationship seemed a little crowbarred. But thats not all that negative, as i have no problem with Zoe Saldanna having more screen time.

After the movie, me and my friends had our normal post-movie wrap up and agreed on the following:

1. This was a phenomenal movie, that we all have to drag are girlfriends/wives to because they will absolutely love it, and will then understand the hell they put us through by making us going with them to pieces of shit like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

2. This movie blew away the newest Star Wars Trilogy, including Revenge of the Sith. Why George? why did you do that to us?

3. Other than Batman begins there has never been a better reboot to a franchise. Like everyone is saying, I can not wait for the sequel.

4. It was cool that they put little nods in there that reference the original series and the movies. Most obvious of course is the slug that was used in Wrath of Khan as well. When I saw that I just want to yell, "KHHHHAAAAAAAAANNNNN!"

Saw it last night at a 7:00 pm showing. I'm not a Star Trek fanatic but I've seen the old movies. This one is ridiculously awesome. Great story, action, acting, effects, everything is top-notch. My fiance who has never seen a star trek movie loved it too.

Star Trek

I'm a Star Wars fan. Not a Trekkie. This movie pulled off in one film what three prequels of Star Wars failed to do, and that is tell a good origins story about a bunch of different characters. This movie was fantastic, and has convinced me to go out and purchase ALL of the other films just to watch them. As far as J. Burton's comment/question. They didn't send Vulcan planes because if they did...there would be no story. Plain and simple. And did anyone else think that the drill heading

STAR TREK

Loved it. I'll be seeing it again for sure. J.J. did one hell of a job.

Just have one question for everyone else here who saw the flick.

******SPOILER******

When nero is using that big drill on the vulcan planet, why didn't the vulcan military send at least one plane up there to shoot it down, like spock did with the drill on earth. Don't the vulcan's have their own military, why do they have send a distress signal to the federation without fighting back at all.

Minor issue I guess, just bugs me. Other than that, the movie was fun-friggin-tastic.

One of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a long, long time. The cast is perfect, the visuals amazing, and the story interesting. I'm not a Trek fan, but after this, I'll at least be checking out some of the older movies.

I was never a big fan of the original series, although I loved the movies. BIG Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager fan. I DID go to conventions and NO I didn't dress up lol. Lately I have felt a void in me, not having Trek but when I first heard about this I thought HELL YES. Seen it twice now. 2 words words describe this film.... FUCKING and AWSOME. Put them together and you have Star Trek. J.J. If you are reading this then please stop wasting time reading everyone's posts and get to work on the sequel.

As a long time Star Trek die hard, I felt that JJ puled off with this film what Brian singer failed to pull off with Superman Returns. He paid homage to what came before without linger in the past and at the same time made the old fresh and new again.

Real good summer movie. Loved the reinterpretations of the characters. One of the best opening sequences in recent memory. Even though I'm not a Trekkie I enjoyed it immensely. 9/10

My review

I saw this movie last week on the press screening (I'm from Croatia)...First of all, I must say that in fact I am not Star Trek fan, I am not completely familiar with the mythology of this phenomenon, and I didn't watch series regularly. Of all Star Trek series that were made, my favorite was original series, with Kirk and Spock, and this last series, "Star Trek: Enterprise" with Captain Archer. I like the old one because of trash looks (which was caused by the ancient times and low-cost

Of all Star Trek series that were made, my favorite was original series, with Kirk and Spock, and this last series, "Star Trek: Enterprise" with Captain Archer. I like the old one because of trash looks (which was caused by the ancient times and low-cost production) and the excessive theatrical acting, with I always found extremely funny to watch, and this new one I like primarily because of the loots of humor. For fans likely favorite, "Star Trek: The Next Generation" with Captain Picard is good IMO, and the "Star Trek: Voyager also," while "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" for some unknown reasons, I didn't like at all, so I saw only 2-3 episodes of that one. As for the movies goes, well, I saw them all, but I cant remember all of them. I only remember my personal best ST movie in the whole series, "Star Trek: First Contact."
As regarding this film, I can say that I was not one of those who are just waiting to see this movie, but judging by the trailer, movie looked like a solid Sc-Fi, + JJ Abrams was siting in directing chair, so I said to my self, "Well...at least I can hope that this is going to be good movie". But in the end not only that it was good .... it was FUCKING GOOD! I do not know, perhaps I exaggerating, in fact I am still under the impression the film, and the feelings are more than satisfactory, but this is really excellent Sc-Fi (Star Trek) movie. Really was a pleasure to watch all these famous characters in their younger days, see how they met and where, and how they communicate. Screenplay is excellent, and really is complimentary to the scriptwriters how they put original Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in the whole story. Usually in remake, or in this case, reboot, old actors from original movies/series are inserted in remakes/reboots as some cameo characters, but this is not the case here. Also I have to commend the amount of humor in the movie, I laugh my ass off at some situations, and dialogues are excellent. Actors did phenomenal job. I even don't know which to single out, because all the characters are so well played, and above all entertaining ... Scotty, Chekov, Dr McCoy, etc. I also have to compliment the soundtrack, it really is excellent.
But of course, this movie is not perfect, and it has its shortcomings. In fact, although J.J. Abrams also did hell of a good job directing this movie, however, he exaggerate a bit in the action scenes which were slightly vast. Hand camera was again a little too wild if you ask me. Although not always, and in the end, that wild sequences didn't destroy pleasure of watch the movie. Also, the scenes that we had a chance to see the trailer, when the young Kirk crash the car from the cliff is completely unnecessary and inappropriate for this kind of movie. In fact this example of Kirk adventurous spirit and disobedience in younger days could be displayed on a little different way, appropriate way.

But ... all in all, this is however, must see popcorn / Star Trek movie, and if you ask me, the best so far. Entertaining, exciting, not at all boring, and even nostalgic. In any case, I want more Enterprise adventure with the same team, behind and in front of the camera because there is great mission before them ... "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."

4,5/5
