Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer makes a buddy cop movie

Tom Cruise might want him for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4, but Ruben Fleischer clearly has other plans.

The director has been considering a sequel to his headshot hit ZOMBIELAND and the Danny McBride comedy 30 MINUTES OR LESS, and now has a buddy cop action flick with a new home at Dreamworks.

The studio won a bidding war for the untitled project, the latest in a number of attempts to reinvigorate the genre popularized in the 80s by movies like 48 HRS, RUNNING SCARED, LETHAL WEAPON and STAKEOUT. Nicholas Stoller (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL) is producing.

Fleischer’s ZOMBIELAND came out late last year, but he’s been taking his sweet time figuring out which project he wants to tackle next. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are currently whipping up a story for the next undead installment, likely to feature Emma Stone in ubiquitous 3D.
