New TV spot for Oz The Great And Powerful with James Franco asks “Which Witch is Which?”

A new TV spot for Sam Raimi‘s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL has arrived, which asks the question: “Which Witch is Which?”  This seems to be the predominant question about the film and possibly the most intriguing one.  I won’t ruin it for you (or myself) but there is a lot of misdirection in the trailers that could lead one to believe many things about just who is the wicked witch.  Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, or someone else entirely.

Thus far, the movie looks like a colorful, adventurous jaunt, replete with CGI and banter-ish dialogue. I think it could be a good time, but I’m not chomping at the bit just yet.  I love me some Sam Raimi, but I’d rather see him move into DARKMAN territory again, or perhaps some more horror (ARMY OF DARKNESS sequel?  Well, why not?).  However, he’s a talented guy and I think he’ll squeeze in a good bit of his signature style into this, even if it’s not so evident just yet.

Son of a Witch:

Here’s the synopsis:

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum‘s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, starring James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams is slated to leave Kansas on March 8, 2013.
