This red band teaser for Under the Skin will mess with your eyeballs

Jonathan Glazer‘s UNDER THE SKIN continues to be a big question mark on my 2014 release calendar. One one hand, Scarlett Johansson in a bra and panties makes for automatic viewing for me but on the other hand, I am not sure what the hell the movie is actually about. I have read the plot summaries and know it has science fiction elements and some hints of horror, but I just cannot wrap my head around the teasers that have been released so far. We see fleeting glimpses of all kinds of body horror and deformities that make me intrigued by the freakshow lingering within.

This latest red band teaser continues with the dialogue free visual assault, this time centering around the eyeballs. The majority of the clip is a close-up of an eye as it pulls back to reveal more haunting imagery. Personally, I have issues with eyes and have seen my fair share of brutal movie scenes with ocular torture. So, even this clip was hard for me to watch.

Isserley, an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey — her voracious sexuality. She is deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind.

Our very own Chris Bumbray gave the movie a mediocre review and said that it breaks with the traditional trappings of the genre, but I am still intrigued enough by it that I cannot ignore it completely. At the very least, Scarlett looks good.

UNDER THE SKIN hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
