New Zealand-based filmmaker Jason Stutter took inspiration from a true story for his paranormal horror movie THE DEAD ROOM, a film which is being represented by XYZ Films in North America and has Raven Banner Entertainment handling its international sales.
The synopsis:
When a terrified family flees a desolate southern New Zealand farmhouse, two cynical scientists and a young psychic are sent to investigate their claims of a haunting. There they encounter a powerful spirit that will protect the house's secrets at all cost.
The Dead Room is inspired by the chilling urban legend surrounding a farmhouse in Central Otago, New Zealand. In the early 1970s, two science tutors went to debunk claims a rural house was haunted and uncovered an incredibly disturbing mystery.
While we wait to hear exactly what distribution deals are secured for THE DEAD ROOM, the filmmakers have made available a poster that promises a Halloween release, always an appropriate time to get a horror movie out into the world, and a video that is the definition of a teaser, running just 16 seconds and consisting of nothing more than a jump scare and a screaming person being taken into a room that may or may not be the titular dead one.
The film stars Jed Brophy, Jeffrey Thomas, and Laura Petersen, and though there's not much information on it so far, it does seem like one to keep an eye on as things develop.
