This weekend was D23 in Anaheim, and, as usual, it didn’t disappoint. Still riding high off their Comic-Con panel, which saw the announcement of Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, many wondered how Marvel Studios would manage to top itself. The answer, of course, was to start building the cast of its upcoming X-Men reboot, which hits theaters on May 5, 2028.
Going into the convention, we’d already had three big reveals, with Sadie Sink confirmed as Jean Grey following Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well as Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Cyclops. But at D23, Marvel announced several more cast members, with Obsession’s Inde Navarrette being cast as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, his former Girls co-star Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, and Maya Boyd as Storm.
Of course, the X-Men announcements were far from the only major reveals at D23. There was plenty of Pixar news, a sneak peek at Star Wars: Starfighter, and the long-overdue trailer reveals for VisionQuest and Ahsoka Season 2. Both shows could rank among the last major streaming series for their respective franchises for quite some time, as Marvel and Lucasfilm have been cutting back on streaming projects in favor of theatrical films.
Speaking of theatrical releases, that Avengers: Doomsday trailer everyone at Comic-Con got to see was finally revealed to the public, putting a nice bow on a pretty crazy weekend for Disney fans.
