A Hugh Jackman cameo in Deadpool 2 could be “really funny”, writers say

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With LOGAN official putting the kibosh on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, there’s no chance of he and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) gracing the screen together. Sad times. Still, there are scientists working on finding loopholes, and DEADPOOL 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were just presented with a big one that would be quite easy to pull off. Light the beacons!

While talking with the Hollywood Reporter the interviewer eventually brought the fans’ desire to see a Jackman as Wolverine cameo, before flat-out suggesting Jackman should cameo as himself – an idea the duo surprisingly hadn’t heard before:

Reese:

Oh my gosh, that's one we haven't heard. That's not a bad idea. I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He's got the People's Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny.

Fans have been dying to see Wolverine and Deadpool team up, and both Jackman and Reynolds have talked about it in the past, with Reynold’s once saying he would totally “exploit” their relationship to make it work. But, Reese and Wernick have also noted that with all the other team-up scenarios they're currently working on between DEADPOOL 2, X-FORCE and DEADPOOL 3, there’s just no room for one with Pool and Wolvey.

However, a straight-forward cameo laced with Deadpool’s brand of humor would make for a perfect little scene between the two that would quench fans’ thirst as well as keep the movie in a logical realm. And, best of all, it’s totally doable.  Anything with Jackman’s Wolverine would require too many implausible strings being pulled, but with a real-life cameo all you need is for Jackman to take a day out of his life. I mean, it’s not like he has anything else going on!

DEADPOOL will begin shooting soon for a 2018 release.
