Back in the summer, the first trailer for UNBROKEN was revealed, unleashing upon the world a movie full of emotional strings being pulled with a stirring symphonic score and a powerful underdog story. While that may sound formulaic and even a little sarcastic, it is the best way to describe Angelina Jolie‘s film. This new trailer gives us a lot of the same but amps it all up.

UNBROKEN is the kind of movies that the Academy Awards love to bestow with trophies. It is a true story, it takes place during a war, it involves romance and perseverance, and most importantly it has a happy ending. While I may sound a bit pessimistic about it, there is really nothing wrong with the trailers for UNBROKEN. In fact, they look really good. But, that could be the problem.

Angelina Jolie definitely has a director’s eye. Having worked with several top tier filmmakers, Jolie has developed her own approach to filmmaking. IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY may not have been great but it definitely showed potential. With UNBROKEN, Jolie has found a star in the making in Jack O’Connell and seems to be doing great justice to the life of Louis Zamperini. Plus, you cannot go wrong with a screenplay by Richard LaGravanese, Joel Coen, and Ethan Coen. Still, something about this movie just feels off it me.

UNBROKEN unleashes the feels on audiences on December 25, 2014.
