Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time eyes Mindy Kaling & Reese Witherspoon

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I loved A WRINKLE IN TIME as a kid. I haven't read it since junior high school, but I still remember being swept up in its magical world of different dimensions and flying creatures with rainbow wings. It opened up my imagination, and I still vividly remember many scenes as if I'd read them yesterday.

Which is why I'm excited for the new big-budget Disney adaptation from director Ava DuVernay (SELMA). While it was a bit of a bummer to hear her pass on BLACK PANTHER, I think this is a more than worthy consolation price.

The plot of the book follows a young girl as she, along with her friend and child prodigy brother, try to find her lost father in another dimension. She is joined by three enigmatic women – Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which – who help her along the way, and who turn out to secretly be powerful angelic beings.

Mrs. Which has already been cast, and is none other than Oprah Winfrey (who worked with DuVernay in SELMA). However, Disney is looking to cast Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit, respectively.

I think this is great casting! Mindy is funny and charming (when she's not purposely annoying in roles like Kelly on THE OFFICE), and Reese has been really killing it lately, especially with her Oscar-nominated perfomance in WILD.

So you guys feeling this casting? And if not, who would you want?
