Bob Marley: One Love trailer brings peace, power, redemption to icon

The first trailer for the upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love, starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as the legendary singer, has arrived.

Get up, stand up because Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Bob Marley: One Love, spotlighting his superstar status in the world of reggae, ambitions of bringing peace to the world, 1976 assassination attempt, redemption, and more, all set to a number of classic songs.

Bob Marley: One Love stars Kingsley Ben-Adir (who played Malcolm X in One Night in Miami…) as the Jamaican singer who proved to be an inspiration through both his music and powerful messages of peace during his short life – he’s also the guy you’ve seen covered in pot smoke on dorm room walls by dudes who have only heard the songs off of “Legend.” Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die) plays Rita Marley, who was Marley’s wife from 1966 until his death in 1981 at the age of 36.

As per its official synopsis, Bob Marley: One Love “celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. On the big screen for the first time, discover Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music.”

Production details note that Bob Marley: One Love strived for authenticity wherever possible, using locals in Jamaica and filming in actual locations that Marley himself spent time in. Ziggy Marley, one of Bob Marley’s many children, serves as producer and outlined his hopes for One Love on Instagram: “With this release we look forward to inspiring not only the long time fans but also the younger generation, giving them a vehicle that opens the door to explore Bob’s life and music and in so doing expand his universal message of unification, justice and peace throughout the earth…”

In 2012, the documentary Marley was released to major acclaim. It really is surprising that it took this long to get a legitimate biopic made about Bob Marley.

Bob Marley: One Love comes to theaters on January 12th, 2024, just weeks before what would have been Marley’s 78th birthday.
