Carrie remake delayed until October 2013, plus a low res peek at the new poster

Let’s play the movie shuffle game!  Well, I wish I could say this was a huge surprise, but it actually makes a lot of sense.  Originally slated to open in March, the CARRIE remake is now being bumped to October, which steers it clear of another remake that’s still on course to open dangerously close, that being the EVIL DEAD remake.  Both of them opening weeks apart always struck me as a gamble, so perhaps this was a game of scheduling chicken and CARRIE lost.

The remake is directed by Kimberly Peirce (STOP LOSS, BOYS DON’T CRY) and stars Chloe Moretz as the titular character, originally played by Sissy Spacek, and co-stars Julianne Moore as Carrie’s crazy mother.  The first adaptation was directed by Brian DePalma, and propelled a young John Travolta forward into his career, while leaving images of a blood soaked Spacek embedded in our minds for decades to come.

Also today, a new low-res poster snuck online for the film, showing a blood-soaked CARRIE dripping all over the page. (UPDATE: We’re getting reports that it’s a fanmade fake…but, a pretty good one if it is.)  Naturally, we’ll update as soon as we have a higher resolution version, but you can take a gander nonetheless below.

CARRIE will now play alongside the likes of Luc Besson‘s MALEVITA and THE SEVENTH SON, also starring Julianne Moore, on October 18, 2013.
