If you haven’t heard of PLAYING IT COOL, you’re not alone. People who have even heard of this story knew it by another name; A MANY SPLINTERED THING. Described as the anti-romantic comedy, the film was given a title change and now a trailer has finally hit that doesn’t exactly sell the premise put forth, but looks charming none-the-less.
Chris Evans had this to say of the script:
It’s unpredictable. Every single scene just felt unique and original like nothing I had ever seen before.
I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with the rom-com genre, just that there are so few of them with a truly original story to tell. A lot of the time you’re just basically taking the same formula and switching up the actors. I’m willing to give this film the benefit of the doubt, but even if it turns out to be the same old story, the line-up of Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan, Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson, and Topher Grace should keep things entertaining. Given that Evans is more interested in making films (and produced this flick) leads me to believe there may be more than meets the eye.
PLAYING IT COOL looks to hit theaters sometime in 2014.
