David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence may reteam for Miracle Mop biopic

David O. Russell is only the second director in Oscar history to have movies earn nominations in all four acting categories in consecutive years. Amongst those honors are two nominations and one win (so far) for Jennifer Lawrence. With a track record like that, why not go for the trifecta?

Deadline is reporting that Russell is looking to rewrite a project at Fox 2000 Pictures about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano, a role that he wants Lawrence to play. The script was originally written by Annie Mumolo, a nominee for co-writing BRIDESMAIDS with Kristen Wiig.

This is a rags-to-riches story of a woman who worked three jobs to support her kids and who overcame long odds to finally get her due with an invention that became an HSN sensation and allowed Mangano to clean up. It is a strong empowerment tale.

Lawrence has managed to turn in a pair of phenomenal performances for Russell in AMERICAN HUSTLE and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK while still appearing in the mega-franchises THE HUNGER GAMES and X-MEN. From all accounts, Lawrence loves working with Russell and vice versa, so if this ends up being the next project for both, it would likely be a small shoot in between filming for THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

While the story of a woman who invented an As Seen On TV device doesn’t strike me as the most enthralling tale, I was proven wrong by SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. I would trust these two with any project.
