Warner Bros Discovery is reportedly considering an overhaul of DC Entertainment

Significant changes could be coming for DC Entertainment as the house that Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman built attempts to course-correct a series of missteps. Whispers about an overhaul have come from Variety, which says that since Discovery closed its $43 billion deal for Warner Media, the top brass is thinking about splashing on a fresh coat of paint.

The deal could potentially affect DC feature film development in the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, streaming series at Warner Bros. Television, and the creative arm within DC proper to merge and maximize value from each entity. David Zaslav, the CEO of the combined companies, is said to have vetted candidates for positions that will be crucial in repositioning DC Entertainment as the money-making force we know it could be.

One creative Zaslav is considering is Emma Watts, a former powerhouse film executive at 20th Century Studios and Paramount. However, it does not look like Watts will take the job. Insiders say that Zaslav thinks nurturing DC Entertainment is the key to making the merger a success. It has been noted that even though DC has found success with several of its superhero films, the DCEU lacks a sense of direction. It’s believed that part of the key to righting the ship is to revitalize characters like Superman and other top-tier characters.

Zaslav thinks the DC library isn’t being used to its full potential. While the success of the DCEU has been touch-and-go in the film department, it’s seeing significant gains with Peacemaker and the anticipated Penguin series starring Colin Farrell. Another series revolving around the Gotham City Police Department is currently in development, though we’ve heard the focus of that show could shift to a series about Arkham Asylum.
