The Fast and Furious franchise is chock full of testosterone. Sometimes the macho conflicts famously happen behind the scenes. Hot off the news of Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel squashing their beef to surprise audiences with a return of Luke Hobbs to the series, there is now talk that the Toretto actor, who preaches about family, is none too pleased with the newest addition to the ensemble. CinemaBlend reports that Diesel is said to be upset with Momoa’s over-the-top performance in Fast X and blames him for the film’s less-than-stellar reviews.

An insider tells RadarOnline that “Vin is embarrassed Jason is being branded the only bright spot in the film and stealing his thunder in the franchise he built himself.” While Fast X isn’t a hit with critics and only produced lukewarm box office returns domestically compared to previous entries, it’s nearly been unanimous that Momoa’s scenery-chewing Dante character had injected a certain amount of fresh fun for the tenth entry. And as Diesel is said to be unhappy about Momoa, the source adds, “Jason knows he’s the flavor of the moment and Vin’s jealous of him. But he doesn’t appreciate Vin trying to poison the public against him. This has the potential to be Hollywood’s next biggest feud.”

Amid Johnson’s rivalry with Diesel after an infamous Instagram post that labeled him as a “candy ass,” reports have leaked that the crew had taken umbrage with Diesel’s behavior on-set. It had been said that Diesel shows up late and ill-prepared. Additionally, when Fast X was only two weeks into production last year, the original director, who is a vet of the series, Justin Lin, reportedly clashed with Diesel and ended up exiting the project during principal photography. A meeting with Vin and producers was said to have ended with Lin slamming the door and a source says, “Justin finally had enough and said, ‘This movie is not worth my mental health.’”

Momoa was cast as Dante Reyes, who is retconned as the son of the corrupt villain in Fast Five, the entry that revitalized the series. Momoa and the new director, Louis Leterrier, decided to make this villain a change of pace with a more flamboyant personality with some androgyny. Momoa’s scene-stealing devil-may-care performance is one that many have felt brought a new energy to the series and finally has the audience laughing along with the movie instead of laughing at it. Fast X – Part II looks to be gearing up for a potential big-man brawl with Diesel, Momoa, Alan Ritchson, and now Johnson returning.
