The most famous kaiju in the world is set to make his triumphant rerelease to the big screen in more ways than one. The resurgence of Godzilla has blown up almost as big as the monster itself. The U.S. retried our hand at the gargantuan creature with 2014’s Godzilla, which aimed for redemption from the 1998 name-only version. That reintroduction spawned a monster-verse with King Kong getting his own reboot and culminating in a rumble for the film Godzilla vs. Kong. Not only is there to be a spin-off series with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters featuring the “Gorilla-whale,” but this December sees a new era with the Toho film Godzilla Minus One.

Fans of the series can now also celebrate the introduction of the Millennium series as Godzilla-movies.com reveals that special screenings of Godzilla 2000 will be shown at AMC theaters courtesy of Fathom Events. Fandango has listed the event and AMC has tickets available for a November 1st showing. There has yet to be a formal announcement for the event, so it is not known if it will be the native Japanese uncut version or the Sony Pictures international cut. It has been 23 years since the film was initially released in U.S. theaters following the 1999 premiere in Japan.

Godzilla 2000 kicked off a new continuity of sequels for the millennium. It was followed by Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, the wordy Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and the epic all-out action madness of Godzilla: Final Wars. Final Wars was released in 2004, and the property would not be revived in Japan until 2016’s Shin Godzilla, which premiered to great accolades and even took home the award for Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards.

Godzilla 2000‘s synopsis per imdb reads, “An independent group of researchers actively track Godzilla as a giant meteor is discovered. The mysterious rock begins to levitate as its true intentions for the world and Godzilla are revealed.” The film was directed by Takao Okawara and written by Wataru Mimura & Hiroshi Kashiwabara. The English-language version has uncredited rewrites from Michael Schlesinger.
