Hobbs & Shaw save the world like an old married couple in new trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

First Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) were enemies, and now their bosom buddies who do everything together, including summer trips to Universal Studios with the families. Okay, maybe they still hate each other, but they still have a job to do, dammit, and that job is saving the whole world from a vicious, super-powered hunk – er – thug…I meant thug. In the new, extended trailer for HOBBS AND SHAW, the reluctant duo take on Brixton Lore (Idris Elba) and go through a series of insane stunts to get the job done. Who needs a whole team of bald gear heads when they prove you can get the job done with two?

Now, if the first trailer didn't really sell you on this first spinoff in the FAST AND FURIOUS saga (which I would find hard to believe), then this trailer will without a doubt get your ass in the seat. The movie looks insanely fun, bursting with tons of comedy built around the duo's chemistry and even more insane action. Director David Leitch proved he can handle both comedy and action in DEADPOOL 2, and now he's bringing those same skills over for this late-summer flick. That opening bit alone is a perfect example of comedy and action mixing together, being both stylish and fast-paced and incredibly clever.

Here we also get more of Elba (a.k.a Black Superman) and Vanessa Kirby as Hattie Shaw throwing fists and feet as well. Everyone gets in on the action here, as does Hobbs' family in the best usage of the word "family" this series has probably ever seen. Together they embrace their warrior spirit in a scene that will no doubt go down as one of the coolest of the summer.

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.
