Andrew Lincoln leaving The Walking Dead next season

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I’ve said this a million times before and I will surely say it a million times in the future, but I stopped watching THE WALKING DEAD after they fired Frank Darabont following season 2. And it looks like I’m not the only one. Not only are fans leaving the series en masse, but the show’s stars are heading for greener pastures as well.

Yes, our buddies over at Collider have just reported that Andrew Lincoln will be leaving AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD by the end of season 9. In fact (NO SPOILERS) fans can only expect to see Lincoln in half-a-dozen episodes of the upcoming season.

On top of that, it’s possible that both Lincoln and Lauren Cohan will be leaving the series this season. Cohan is confirmed to be back for Season 9 – but only for six episodes as well – and is said to be holding out for a better contract. We’ll see if she gets it…

That said, AMC has evidently offered Norman Reedus “substantial compensation” to take over the show’s leading role. So I guess that’s a good thing. No word on if Reedus will accept, but again, we will let you know as soon as we do.

As all of you know, Lincoln’s Rick has been the main star of the series from the very first frame, so the powers that be will have to do some major footwork to cover up his tracks. Is this a good thing? I guess time will tell. And again, we’ll let you know when we hear more.

What do you make of this news? Let us know below!
