HBO’s terrifying Beware the Slenderman documentary now available on HBO Go

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

We all know the legend of the Slenderman. Right? Yes, we do. The legend of a thin, unnaturally tall man with a blank and usually featureless face, wearing a black suit, stalking, abducting or traumatizing people, particularly children. Brrr… Also, we all know the story of how the Slenderman legend influenced two 12-year-old girls into attempting to murder their friend out in the woods. Double brrr…

A documentary about the Slenderman, and the resulting case of the two little girls stabbing their friend 19 times, called BEWARE THE SLENDER MAN premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, TX back in March of 2016. HBO snatched it up and the doc was broadcast this past Monday night, January 23, 2017.

Did you miss it? Yeah, me too. But no worries, the film is available through HBO GO and can be checked out right HERE. And also check out the synopsis via HBO:

The news horrified the world: Two 12-year-old American girls lured a friend into the Wisconsin woods and stabbed her 19 times in an effort to appease a faceless mythical entity known online as Slenderman. But there’s more to the story than the dark headlines it generated. Delving deep into this shocking crime, the sobering documentary Beware the Slenderman examines how an urban myth could take root in impressionable young minds, leading to an unspeakable act.

Directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky (HBO’s Oscar-nominated The Final Inch), the documentary covers all sides of this unusual ongoing case, drawing on an eerie array of Slenderman-inspired art, games and self-produced video, all culled from the Internet, along with heart-wrenching, unprecedented access to the two girls’ families, courtroom testimony and interrogation-room footage.

I am looking forward to watching this doc (through closed fingers, I hope) asap. I missed it when it originally aired Monday night. But that's what HBO Go is for, right? I knew I'd use it for more than binge-watching WESTWORLD.

Triple brrr…
