Is Dredd 2 coming after all? Here’s what Karl Urban says…

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We’ve had our hopes and dreams of a DREDD sequel raised and dashed time and again. Since it did not do very well theatrically (it cost $50 million, made only $35 million worldwide), the possibility of a follow-up to the fanboy favorite has not seemed very likely… but maybe there’s still hope yet, thanks to the very intense cult following.

According to none other than Judge Dredd himself, Karl Urban, there’s still hope alive for DREDD 2. Appearing at a Star Trek convention in Frankfurt, Urban said “conversations are taking place between the studio, the director and writer Alex Garland.” Evidently the film’s performance on DVD has been noticed by the studio…

But is that enough to green light a new DREDD? I honestly don’t see it happening, but I’ve definitely been wrong before. For his part, Urban has been beating the drum for a DREDD 2 since the first one came out; even back in May of last year he seemed optimistic about a new installment. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if his good faith pays off…
