Norman might strike again in Bates Motel season 4

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Bates Motel is returning to haunt your TV screens tonight, and Variety nabbed a pre-premiere interview with showrunner Kerry Ehrin in anticipation. According to her, Season 4 will pick up "directly after the end of last season. It’s the same night. Norman is deep in a blackout."

She continued, saying that the themes of the show will continue to be fleshed out:

At its heart, this show is always going to be about the bond between Norman and Norma — that sort of strange emotional marriage they have and how the world is going to try impede on that. They’re always going to try to push it out and stay connected. They might not always be able to. But at its heart that really is the north star of the storytelling of the show. And on a thematic level, the show is about hope, weirdly, and trying to discern reality from delusion. Those are two huge themes this season.

However, the most important question is this: Will Norman strike again? To which she flippantly replied:

He is Norman Bates.

That's not exactly a confirmation, but it sounds like this season is going to get darker and darker as the time stretches closer and closer to the timeline of PSYCHO. Check out the full interview right here!

In this 10 episode season:

Norma (Vera Farmiga) becomes increasingly fearful and desperate, going to great lengths to find Norman (Freddie Highmore) the professional help he needs. This further complicates their once unbreakable trust while Norman struggles to maintain his grip on reality. Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) once again finds himself drawn back into Norma and Norman’s lives. Will things finally heat up between Norma and the other man in her life, Sheriff Romero, and just how much further will he go to protect her?

Bates Motel returns to A&E tonight, March 7th, at 9PM; it'll be immediately followed by the series premiere of Damien
