Paramount strikes down on new genre tinged YA novel The Diviners

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Another day, another young adult novel headed down the lane…

Deadline has it that Paramount has just bought the rights to Libba Bray’s YA novel THE DIVINERS, which will be produced by Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The book doesn’t hit shelves until this September, so perhaps we’ll have to wait and see how popular it is before a production date is announced. We’re also still awaiting a director.

The book is set in the 1920s and follows a group of young New Yorkers with mysterious powers who play a dramatic role in a battle of good vs. evil when a series of occult-based murders begin to terrify the city. The author will adapt the script and be exec producer. The hope is to launch a franchise.

Schwartz, who has the Halloween comedy FUN SIZE due this October, might be a choice to direct. Or, Fake Empire can go to any number of directors on their TV slate to get the job done, perhaps John Ensler from “Cult.” Just a thought.

More on THE DIVINERS when it strikes down.

Best YOUNG ADULT ever, Charlize!!!
