Rick Moranis won’t have a cameo in Ghostbusters

When you're making a GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, who you gonna call? Pretty much everyone, that's who. Already, it has been announced that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver will be returning for cameos in Paul Feig's film, which recently wrapped in Boston. However, one face you won't be seeing in the movie is original team member Rick Moranis. He recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to tell them why:

I took a break, which turned into a longer break. But I'm interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I'll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn't appeal to me.

Moranis, who took a sabbatical from acting to raise his kids following the tragic death of his wife, hasn't been seen onscreen since the 2006 animated classic BROTHER BEAR 2. It's disappointing to hear that he wasn't rarin' to jump back into the Ghostbusters jumpsuit (and there go my dreams of a LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS reboot), but his reasoning is sound. The film seems like it'll be so jam packed with people anyway that one missing Moranis won't have quite as much sting as it might have otherwise.

GHOSTBUSTERS, starring Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann, and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan, will haunt theaters on on July 22, 2016. The film also stars Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, and Cecily Strong.
