Saw: Legacy gets an October 2017 release date

Saw II

"If it's Halloween, it must be SAW." For seven years in a row, Lionsgate released a SAW film into theatres just in time to allow moviegoers to spend their Halloween season taking in the cringe-inducing, appalling spectacle of people being caught in Jigsaw's traps.

Then 2010's SAW 3D was promoted as being the franchise's "final chapter", and five SAW-less Halloweens have passed. There is another Halloween without SAW ahead of us this year, but the series is coming back.

The Spierig Brothers (UNDEAD, DAYBREAKERS, PREDESTINATION) are directing the eighth film in the franchise, which to this point has been referred to as SAW: LEGACY. Filming is set to take place in Toronto from September 12, 2016 to October 21, 2016, and Lionsgate has now announced that they are bringing back horror tradition, for at least one year.

There is some question over whether or not SAW: LEGACY will be the final title, but the sequel has been officially scheduled to reach theatres on October 27, 2017.

PIRANHA 3D / SORORITY ROW's Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger have written the screenplay, but Lionsgate is not revealing any of its secrets.
