Takashi Miike lines up next flick: Adaptation of novel Lesson of the Evil

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Takashi Miike is pretty much a legend around these parts. Not only these parts either… the dude is a legend around the world. So when news drops on his latest project, something called LESSON OF THE EVIL, you can bet we’re going to jump to tell you about it!

The guys over at Nippon Cinema dropped word on LESSON OF THE EVIL, which will be an adaptation of Yusuke Kishi’s best-selling 2010 novel of the same name. AKU NO KYOTEN (LESSON OF THE EVIL)’s rundown reads:

LESSON OF THE EVIL centers on a teacher named Seiji Hasumi who’s loved by his students and respected by his peers. However, his outward charm masks his true nature. In reality, Hasumi is a psychopath who is unable to feel empathy for other human beings. Specifically, he has a severe antisocial personality disorder.

Because of his mental condition, Hasumi chooses to deal with problems like bullying and overbearing “monster parents” the easy way—by systematically murdering his students.

Sounds good to me! Plus with Miike at the helm… I’m sold! Hideaki Ito will star in the film as the psychotic teacher. LESSON OF THE EVIL is slated to start filming this April with a June finish date pegged. It’s hoping to drop at the Venice International Film Festival before a theatrical release in November.

That’s about all we’ve got on this one right now but come on, isn’t that enough? We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes and ears open for more on LESSON OF THE EVIL as we near it’s start date so be sure to check back for more soon.
