Taylor-Joy, Cooke, and Yelchin plot a murder in Thoroughbreds teaser

Anton Yelchin worked on a lot of film and television projects in his too-few years, so many that several have been released after his tragic death in June of 2016. One of his last projects was writer/director Cory Finley's thriller THOROUGHBRED, which didn't have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival until seven months after Yelchin passed away. Focus Features picked up the distribution rights to the film after its Sundance screening, and now we know when they will be releasing it: March 9, 2018.

With the release less than five months away, a teaser trailer has arrived online to give us a preview of Yelchin, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Olivia Cooke in the story of

two teenage girls in suburban Connecticut who rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. In the process, they learn that neither is what she seems to be, and that a murder might solve both of their problems.

The teaser does a good job of getting across the basic idea of the story and making me want to see more, while still keeping the film's secrets: the girls obviously want weapons to kill somebody with, but it doesn't reveal who or why. There's another official synopsis out there that seems to give away who the intended victim is, so I decided to go with the more simple description for now.
I look forward to checking out THOROUGHBREDS when it's released. It might be our last chance to see a new performance from Yelchin on the big screen. It's both good and sad to see him in the teaser.
