Anthony Mackie is a pill-popping paramedic in the twisted Synchronic trailer

After leading the second season of Netflix's ALTERED CARBON and finally wrapping on Marvel's The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is ready to get weird for SYNCHRONIC, a reality-warping sci-fi spectacle from the twisted mind of Justin Benson. Well Go USA Entertainment today debuted a batch of new materials for the upcoming film including a poster, stills, and a mind-bending trailer.

Here's the official synopsis for SYNCHROINC:

When New Orleans paramedics and longtime best friends Steve (Anthony Mackie) and Dennis (Jamie Dornan) are called to a series of bizarre, gruesome accidents, they chalk it up to the mysterious new party drug found at the scene. But after Dennis’s oldest daughter suddenly disappears, Steve stumbles upon a terrifying truth about the supposed psychedelic that will challenge everything he knows about reality—and the flow of time itself.

Starring alongside Mackie in this timey-wimey tale of terror is Jamie Dornan (A PRIVATE WAR, The Fall), Katie Aselton (THE GIFT, Legion), and Ally Ioannides (THE TSAREVICH, Parenthood). The movie is directed by THE ENDLESS filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and is based on a screenplay penned by Benson.

If you're looking to get the early scoop on this one, you should know that our own Chris Bumbray reviewed the film during last year's TIFF celebration. In his review, Chris recommends that you delve into SYNCHRONIC "as free of spoilers as possible, as the second act twist legitimately changes the genre of the film we're watching." He also says that despite the film's horror-like premise, SYNCHRONIC’s "a much lower-key, emotional experience than you might expect." He also boasts quite a bit about the film's collection of stellar performances. Welp, you can go ahead and add SYNCHRONIC to my must-watch list because this movie looks as if it's right up my alley. At first, I was getting something of a BRING OUT YOUR DEAD vibe from the trailer, but then it morphed into something else entirely that swiftly kicked my ass down a dark rabbit hole of hallucinations and alternate realities. If that doesn't get my ass in the seat I don't know what will.

SYNCHRONIC is scheduled to premiere in theaters and drive-ins on October 23rd.
