It wasn’t that long ago that there was a big splash at Comic-Con promoting the RED SONJA movie that would star Rose McGowan and be produced by Robert Rodriguez. Then came some, um, creative differences (i.e., Rodriguez and McGowan breaking up on a personal level) that left the project in limbo. Now McGowan is back in the world of Conan as she’s signed on to star in the upcoming CONAN reboot.
So is McGowan setting herself up for a SONJA spinoff with a role in this film? Not quite. She’ll play a villainess in the film described as being a “half-human/half-witch.” Whether she’ll be in cahoots with lead villain Khalar Singh (played by AVATAR baddie Stephen Lang) remains to be seen.
Filming began on Monday in Bulgaria for the upcoming film, which will be released by Lionsgate. McGowan and Lang co-star with Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Ron Perlman and Said Taghmaoui in the film by Marcus Nispel.
