Best Movie & TV Trailers of the Week: Overlord, The Quake and more!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Nazi zombies, murdering existentialists, earthquakes, a drunken merman and a Madea funeral — it's been one heck of a week for movie trailers, to say the least. If you're like me, then you'll be thrilled to know that there's some new footage from Lars von Trier's latest, THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, a film that is said to be as divisive as it is violent. After the film made waves at Cannes, a festival that had previously banned von Trier after his problematic nazi comments, the controversial picture made its way around the globe, playing the Busan International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, and Stiges. Now, the director's cut is hitting American theaters on November 28th, and we will finally get to see Matt Dillon as a modern day Jack the Ripper through the eyes of one of the most fascinating and polarizing filmmakers of our time. To put it simply, this writer can't wait.

THE QUAKE trailer also caught my eye, especially since it serves as the unofficial sequel (same producers, different director)  to the 2015 Norweigian film THE WAVE, which was a surprisngly powerful indie feature about the raw force that mother nature can unleash at any given moment. BOY ERASED looks very promising as well, if for no other reason than to serve as an example of how Lucas Hedges will one day be running Hollywood. Ron Perlman gets to show off his sniper skills in ASHER, and FIVE FEET APART is sure to pull on our heart strings. There's also a brand new AQUAMAN spot, which is only upping the excitement for the highly anticiapted December release. Check it all out below!

We've also got some stellar TV trailers this week to keep you binging long into November. DON'T WATCH THIS is being sold as a brand new Netflix horror anthology, but it looks strikingly similar to Mary Harron's AMERICAN PSYCHO. There's also a fresh look at the upcoming STRANGER THINGS season three, and finally a glance at what waits for us in the long awaited TRUE DETECTIVE return.

While it's always exciting to have a new AQUAMAN trailer at hand, this writer is particularly stoked for everyone to finally get a look at J.J. Abrams' OVERLORD, one of the most thrilling movies to come out of Fantastic Fest.
