Fey, Carell reteam?

The idea of Steve Carell and Tina Fey starring in a movie together was once a novel idea. At the time Carell and Fey were starring in two of my favorite sitcoms on TV and the idea of pairing them together for a movie seemed like a no-brainer. The only problem was that the movie turned out to be DATE NIGHT. Sure the movie doesn’t hit theaters until April but I’m not exactly approaching the film with a lot of optimism. But if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, right?

Carell and Fey are in early talks to reteam for the Warner Bros. comedy MAIL-ORDER GROOM, which would star Fey as a single woman who orders a husband (Carell) from an Eastern European mail-order service. Giving us a little bit of hope with this film is the talent WB is hoping to put behind the camera. They’ve already brought in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (BAD SANTA) to do a rewrite and are looking at Jay Roach (MEET THE PARENTS) or Richard Linklater (DAZED AND CONFUSED) to direct.

I don’t doubt that Carell and Fey have a great movie in them – separately they’ve made great movies – but I’m pretty sure DATE NIGHT isn’t it. Here’s hoping the second time is a charm.
