Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin has become attached to numerous other HBO projects, and THR has reported that the author has made things official as he's just signed a massive five-year deal with the network that's said to be worth mid-eight figures.

There are several projects based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series in development at HBO, with Martin serving as an executive producer and working closely with the writers on each. The first is House of the Dragon, a prequel series that takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and sets the stage for the Targaryen civil war. Production is expected to kick off in London next month for a 2022 debut. The other projects aren't quite as far along, but include 9 Voyages (working title), a series that follows Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka The Sea Snake, on his sea-faring adventures. The character is actually set to appear in House of the Dragon where he'll be played by Steve Toussaint, so this project would be a spin-off to a prequel series that we haven't even seen yet. Rome creator Bruno Heller is onboard to pen the series. There's also a show based on the 10,000 Ships, which refers to the "journey made by warrior queen Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who traveled from Essos to Dorne following their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War," as well as one set in Flea Bottom, the poorest slum district of King's Landing that was featured in Game of Thrones. A project based on Martin's novellas featuring Dunk and Egg is also in the works, as is an animated series that could be headed to HBO Max.

George R.R. Martin isn't just developing A Song of Ice and Fire projects for HBO, as he's also working on Who Fears Death, an adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor's novel, as well as Roadmarks, an adaptation of the novel by Roger Zelazny. Martin is also working on completing The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, but has refrained from saying when it will be completed.
