Hugh Jackman goes to China for some Wang

It looks like Hugh Jackman has some room on his schedule before the robot punching machines of REAL STEEL, so he’s heading to Asia for a while.

Jackman is in China to join the currently shooting drama SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN, from director Wayne Wang (THE JOY LUCK CLUB, MAID IN MANHATTAN).

The story (based on a book by Lisa See) “revolves around the lifelong friendship of Lily and Snow Flower and their imprisonment by rigid cultural norms.” The movie stars Li Bingbing (THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM) and Jeon Ji-hyun (BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE).

Zhang Ziyi was originally set to star but suddenly dropped out over “scheduling conflicts” (which could mean anything, possibly even actual scheduling conflicts).

Depending on who says it, Jackman is either the male lead or an unbilled cameo (Wolvie’s reps are apparently downplaying his participation).
