Infinity War outselling last 7 MCU movies combined in Fandango presales

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In terms of sheer spectacle and ambition AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is already the biggest superhero movie of all time. However, can it translate that awesome size into awesome box office results? Okay, maybe the answer to that is already a resounding “YES!” so maybe the real question is just how big will it be. Well, based on a recent update regarding the movie’s ticket presales, the movie is destined to leave all other superhero movies in the dust.

According to a new press release from Fandango, INFINITY WAR is on track to sell more tickets than any other superhero movie ever on the service, beating the record held by BLACK PANTHER. When tickets for the movie first went on sale last month it was able to top PANTHER’s record 24-hour ticket sales in a matter of six hours. Now several weeks later, it seems the fire is still burning as fans continue to buy tickets in record numbers.

In fact, INFINITY WAR is not only outselling BLACK PANTHER on Fandango two-to-one to be their best-ever superhero pre-seller, but it’s also outselling the last SEVEN MCU movies (BLACK PANTHER, THOR: RAGNAROK, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, DOCTOR STRANGE, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and ANT-MAN) combined at this same point in their presales (two weeks before release). That is a staggering number of tickets, and just goes to show you how hotly anticipated this movie is, and how it’s already established itself as a can’t-miss event.

Last week pre-release estimates came out placing the movie for a $200 million opening weekend, based on tracking at that time. That number should no doubt go up in the coming week or two, with many speculating it has a shot at beating STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI’s opening of $220 million. Should it do so, it would have the second-best weekend ever, only behind STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($248 million), and would have, by far, the best opening for a superhero movie.

I knew this movie would sell a ton of tickets. Hell, I knew it would sell a crap ton of tickets, which is several levels above a normal ton. But the fact it's outselling not only PANTHER but every MCU movie combined since ANT-MAN is tremendous. This movie is going to be massive, and clearly, everyone and their moms and grandmoms have been waiting for this movie for the last 10 years in giddy anticipation. In two weeks the theaters will be packed, and you all better have your tickets by then!
