James Mangold says he “would love” to be involved with more X-23

LOGAN may be the end for one actor’s tenure as a comic book icon (Hugh Jackman), but the film will also introduce us to a new hellion in X-23 (Dafne Keen). We’ve seen her in action, and what a vicious, murderous little pile of joy she is. No doubt she will steal the show, and even director James Mangold would be down to bring her back in future movies, where she will indeed do more front flips.

While speaking with We Got This Covered Mangold was able to talk about what it was like to work with the cast, and on top of saying he and Jackman will “definitely” be working together again he also mentioned how X-23 is a character he would love to see show up in future films, and how he would certainly be involved in bringing her to the big screen:

I think Dafne is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character and that’s certainly something I’d be involved in. For me that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would put and the idea about Charles ailing.

Now it goes without saying there’s a reason why this article’s headline wasn’t “X-23 IS GETTING HER OWN MOVIE!” and that’s because this is by no means a confirmation that's happening. Only a silly person would jump to that, but it’s not silly to imagine Mangold has an admiration for the character and would like to see her grow. Plus, if LOGAN does well on the critical and box office front it wouldn’t be unreal to think Fox would want him to spearhead future films, and that’s where more X-23 could come in.

X-23 looks badass, we can all agree, and she looks like she will be gutting just as many baddies as Logan himself (and doing it with two fewer claws, I might add). I can see the studio wanting to set her up as a replacement Wolverine (she does take the mantle in the comics), but Keen seems too young to head her own franchise, so I can’t she her own movie becoming a thing for some time. Still, I’ve never been so threatened by an 11-year-old…which is awesome.

LOGAN comes claws out March 3.
