Jeremy Irons & Brendan Gleeson join Michael Fassbender for Assassin’s Creed

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. He won’t be alone, however, as Brendan Gleeson will be playing Callum’s father. Also joining the cast will be Jeremy Irons, playing father to Marion Cotillard‘s character.

It’s easy to write this film off early on, simply because it’s a videogame adaptation, but if the trailer to Justin Kurzel‘s MACBETH (featured below) is any indication, we’ll definitely have a unique take on this popular gaming series. There are already more Assassin’s Creed games then I care to count, so I’m happy that they’re coming up with their own story for the film. You add this cast into the mix and this is one adaptation we may have to start taking seriously.

ASSASSIN’S CREED is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2016.
